Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Seven different players scored a goal, including hat tricks from Nicole Healey (Milford, Conn.) and Emma Farrel (Cheshire, Conn.), but the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team was edged by Franklin Pierce, 16-14.
The Owls are now 2-10 overall and 1-8 in Northeast-10 play. FPU improved to 6-5 and 4-3.
Farrel added two assists for a team-high five points, while
Carolynn Keal (Southington, Conn.) scored once and handed out three assists.
Jennifer McCarthy (Norwalk, Conn.),
Kennedy Sherman (Buchanan, N.Y.) and
Sarah Muise (Killingworth, Conn.) each had two goals.
Lauren Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.) had one goal and one assist.
The contest was a tightly-contested affair that featured a combined 11 yellow cards, 70 shots and 91 fouls in addition to the 30 goals put up by the clubs.
Franklin Pierce led for the final 60 minutes of regulation but never led by more than five goals. Trailing 14-9 with just over 12 minutes to go, the Owls rallied to score five of the final seven goals of the game. However, after Farrel's third of the day with 1:45 remaining, SCSU was able to get no closer.
Muise opened the scoring for the Owls just 2:37 into play. SCSU held that lead for nearly six minutes before the Ravens tied the game at 1-1. FPU followed with two goals in 22 seconds to take the lead for good. The visitors led 10-6 at halftime.
SCSU is back in action on Tuesday for a game at AIC.
