Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University softball team lost their third and fourth straight games Wednesday after being swept by Adelphi 3-0 and 9-0. The Owls are now 11-14 overall and 5-7 in the NE-10, while the Panthers are 17-15 and 10-4.

Southern Connecticut had trouble getting hits off Adelphi starting pitchers Lindsey Mapes and Jasmine Ennabe - they managed three hits in each game. Kelsey Cockrill (Haymarket, Va.) pitched well in game one, but untimely walks and errors did her in, as well as the Owls' inability to get anything going from the plate.

Adelphi scored their first run on a bases loaded walk in the third inning, and their second run on an error by second baseman Giuliana D'Arcangelo (Brookfield, Conn.) in the fifth. They added one more in the sixth due to a hit batsman, a steal, and an RBI single. Cockrill gave up six hits, three runs (two earned), five walks (and one HBP), and six strikeouts.

Game two was not any better, as it ended after five innings. The Owls committed five errors behind Jessica Van Alphen (Hudson, N.Y.) and Adelphi scored three runs off of them and one more off a wild pitch. Van Alphen took the loss after four innings of work and five hits, nine runs (six earned), one walk, and two strikeouts.

Southern Connecticut will hit the road to take on the Saint Rose Golden Knights for one game on Friday and two more on Saturday.
