Field Hockey To Open Campaign With Two Games This Weekend

A NEW SEASON BEGINS
The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team opens the 2015 season with the Labor Day Classic at Saint Michael's College. The Owls will face Mansfield on Saturday for their season opener. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. The following day, SCSU will take on  No. 4 nationally ranked Shippensburg in an 11 a.m. start.

ALL-TIME VERSUS SHIPPENSBURG
Shippensburg has a 16-3 edge in the all-time series with the Owls.

ALL-TIME VERSUS MANSFIELD
Mansfield holds a 6-2 lead in the all-time series with the Owls.

THE LAST MEETING WITH SHIPPENSBURG
Goalkeeper Audrey Dolloff matched a career-high with 23 saves, but the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team dropped a 6-0 decision to No. 2 nationally ranked Shippensburg on Sept. 7, 2014 at Jess Dow Field.

THE LAST MEETING WITH MANSFIELD
The Owls kicked off the 2014 season with a 6-2 win over Mansfield behind a hat trick from Bailey McGinnis. Kristi Montemurro, Lauren Anderson and Whitney Dyer also scored goals for the Owls. The victory was Southern's first against a PSAC school since 2010, when it also defeated Mansfield at Jess Dow Field.

THE CAPTAINS
Head Coach Kelley Frassinelli has announced that seniors Lauren Anderson and Audrey Dolloff, along with junior Meghan Davis will serve as the Owls team captains for the 2015 season.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB 
The Owls welcome 11 newcomers to the squad for the 2015 season - Madison Cole, Kassi Hansen, Alicia Jackson, Kelli McCombs, Amanda Oberly, Kya O'Donnell, Natalia Prukalski, Sadie Robinson, Emily Stross, Jacqueline Touzos and Sadie Young.

The Owls have been selected 10th in the 2014 Northeast-10 Preseason Poll.

FARREL MAKES A QUICK IMPACT
Emma Farrel led the Owls in scoring as a freshman a year ago with 19 points and also topped the squad in goals (eight) while tying for the team lead in assists (three).

DOLLOFF RANKS AMONG NCAA LEADERS
Audrey Dolloff finished the 2014 season ranked No. 3 in Division II with an average of 11.0 saves per game and was also 20th in save percentage (.731).

TEN OWLS EARN NFHCA ACADEMIC HONORS
SCSU had 10 student-athletes receive recognition from the NFHCA for academic success in 2014-15: Emily Allen, Lauren Anderson, Kimberly Driscoll, Zoe Fanolis, Erica Martino, Bailey McGinnis, Alicia Morgan, Colleen Murphy, Vienna Pallisco and Ashley Sanzaro.

TEAM CAPTURES NFHCA ACADEMIC TEAM LAURELS
For the seventh year in a row, the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team was recognized with National Academic Team honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year. In total, the Owls were one of 20 programs at the Division II level to be recognized with this honor.

The Owls are back in action on Sept. 9 at Franklin Pierce.
