Colleen Murphy (Branford, Conn.) scored the only goal of the game with 22 seconds left in the first half and classmate
Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) made it stand up from there with 11 saves as the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team blanked Bentley today, 1-0.
The Owls won their second in a row and improved to 3-4 and 2-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Bentley is 3-3 and 1-1 in league action.
SCSU outshot Bentley by an 8-4 margin in the opening frame. The Falcons had a grade-A scoring opportunity roughly midway through the half, but Dolloff made a diving stick save to keep the game scoreless.
Murphy then netted her fourth of the year in the closing seconds of the opening half. She maneuvered along the near goal line and took an initial shot that was stopped. However, Murphy knocked the rebound in to give the Owls the lead.
Bentley outshot the Owls by an 18-4 figure in the second half, but Dolloff made nine of her 11 saves after the break to secure the win.
Southern Connecticut returns to action on Saturday for a home game against Assumption.
