BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Senior
Vienna Pallisco (Sherman, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal on a penalty stroke at the 4:37 mark of overtime to give the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team a dramatic 4-3 win over No. 5 nationally ranked LIU-Post today.
TEAM RECORDS: SCSU 4-9 (2-6 Northeast-10) | LIU-Post 8-3 (4-3 NE-10)
FLAIR FOR THE DRAMATIC: The Owls were one misstep away from going back home with a loss. Trailing 3-2, SCSU was awarded a penalty corner with no time left in regulation. However, the Owls were able to force extra time when
Kya O'Donnell (Cheshire, Conn.) scored off a feed from
Jacqueline Touzos (Foxboro, Mass.).
That set the stage for Pallisco, who netted her second penalty stroke goal in as many games. The Owls were awarded the penalty stroke after a penalty corner attempt, and Fanolis followed with her third goal of the year.
BALANCE HELPS THE CAUSE: The Owls had four different goal scorers.
Zoe Fanolis (Hamden, Conn.) and Touzos scored second half goals to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 2-2 tie.
Bailey McGinnis (North Branford, Conn.) also handed out two assists.
LAST LINE OF DEFENSE: Brianna Craft (Hamden, Conn.) made 15 saves, including three in overtime, to backstop the Owls to the win.
