Box Score OAKDALE, N.Y. –
Kennedy Sherman (Buchanan, N.Y.) and
Nicole Healey (Milford, Conn.) each tallied a hat trick, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-13 decision to No. 13 nationally ranked Dowling in non-league action today.
The Owls are now 1-1 on the year, while Dowling is 4-1.
Healey added an assist for a team-high four points.
Jennifer McCarthy (Norwalk, Conn.) and
Samantha Cozzolino (Hamden, Conn.) also posted multiple goal efforts in the contest.
Healey opened the scoring only 39 seconds into the game before Dowling took control with five consecutive goals. Goals from
Taylor Portelinha (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Healey cut the gap to 5-3, but the hosts scored six of the final eight goals of the half for an 11-5 advantage at the intermission.
Trailing 15-9 in the second half, the Owls made one last surge with four consecutive goals to get within two goals with 4:35 left. McCarthy and Sherman both scored twice for the Owls during that run.
However, Dowling added a goal with 2:50 left in regulation and held on for the win from there.
