Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Southern Connecticut State University softball team fell to Lynn University 6-2 and to NYIT 13-5 on Sunday afternoon. The loss to Lynn comes a day after the Owls defeated the Fighting Knights 5-1.
The Owls now fall to 2-7 while Lynn improves to 11-19-1 and the Wildcats move to 5-4.
Lynn jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Owls got on the board in the fifth inning. The Fighting Knights got two unearned runs in the second on a series of throwing errors. They picked up another one in the third on a single down the right field line.
Arianna Medeiros (Tewksbury, Mass.) picked up her fifth RBI of the weekend on a hit in the top of the fifth. She smacked a double to center field, scoring
Brooke Franco (Middletown, Conn.) to make the score 3-1. Southern Connecticut manufactured another run to get within one in the sixth inning.
Giuliana D'Arcangelo (Brookfield, Conn.) walked to lead off the inning and stole second base. She advanced to third on a
Victoria Ceballos (Bridgeport, Conn.) sacrifice and scored on a
Catherine Ursillo (Bergenfield, Conn.) single.
Leanna Feerick (Maybrook, Conn.) followed and reached base on a fielding error, but the Owls were not able to tie up the game, stranding two runners.
Lynn responded in the bottom of the sixth with two doubles to extend its lead to 6-2. The Owls got two runners on base in the top of the seventh, but could not bring them home.
D'Arcangelo finished the day 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base. Medeiros went 1-for-2 with one RBI and two walks in the leadoff spot.
