Giuliana D'Arcangelo (Brookfield, Conn.) hit two home runs against Adelphi in Wednesday's doubleheader, but Southern Connecticut State University dropped both games to the Panthers, 10-4 and 4-1.
The Owls are now 4-9 overall and 0-2 in the Northeast-10, while Adelphi is 15-9 and 6-0.
D'Arcangelo hit her third and fourth home runs in the third and fifth innings of game one. They were both two RBI bombs -
Catherine Ursillo (Bergenfield, N.J.) and
Arianna Medeiros (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored on them. D'Arcangelo leads the team in RBI with 11.
Medeiros,
Danielle Piazza (Hopewell Jct, N.Y.) and
Brooke Franco (Middletown, Conn.) all had extra base hits in the game. Medeiros went 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot. She leads the team in batting average and doubles. Franco went 1-for-2 with a walk. She leads the team in that category with five.
In game two, the Owls scored first when Medeiros came home on a Piazza groundout to the shortstop. Adelphi responded in the bottom half of the inning when it hit a solo home run. The Panthers hit another in the fourth to extend their lead. D'Arcangelo cooled off this game, going 1-for-2 with a walk.
Victoria Ceballos (Bridgeport, Conn.) pitched in relief and gave up two hits and no runs in 2.2 innings.
Southern Connecticut returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Holy Family in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
