Complete Game Notes as a .PDFOWLS TACKLE DOWLING AND ADELPHIFollowing an impressive start to the 2016 campaign, the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team looks to continue its winning ways as the Owls travel to Oakdale, N.Y. for a non-conference double-header at Dowling College on Saturday before traveling to Garden City, N.Y. for a non-conference game at Adelphi University on Sunday.

LAST TIME VS. ADELPHILast season, Southern Connecticut went 0-4 against Adelphi by the scores of 8-5 (1), 4-3 (2), 5-4 (3) (10in) and 4-1 (4).
SCOUTING DOWLING• Dowling enters Saturday's game with an overall mark of 0-1, falling to Pace in its season opener 12-1.
• Dowling was chosen to finish fourth in the East Coast Conference preseason poll.
• The Golden Lions add eight newcomers to a solid group of 20 returners including All-ECC selections seniors Michael Richter and RJ Going.
SCOUTING ADELPHI• Adelphi enters Sunday's game with an overall record of 4-1, picking up its only loss of the season to West Virginia Weselyan College.
• The Panthers were selected to finish third, right in front of the Owls, in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• Leading the pitching staff this season will be senior Jonathan Mulford after an improved stat line from 2014 to 2015. He lowered his ERA from 2.93 to 1.76, surrendered just 8 doubles, no triples, walked 19 batters while striking out 50 and lowered his opponent's batting average from .227 to .197.
OWLS RANKED EIGHTH IN NCBWAFollowing the 3-1 start to the campaign, the Owls have been ranked eighth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Regional Poll. Franklin Piece topped the poll with 89 points while Southern New Hampshire University and Saint Thomas Aquinas ranked second and third with 82 and 68 points, respectively.
WEEK ONE RECAPThe Owls went 3-1 during their opening weekend down in Myrtle Beach, S.C. as the Owls' single loss came against Dominican on Sunday. Southern Connecticut defeated Nyack, Chestnut Hill and Concordia (N.Y.).
IMPRESSIVE SHOWING AT THE PLATEMcNeill Finnegan and
Tyler Criscuolo led the Owls last week with a .400 batting average. McNeill went 6-for-12 at the plate while posting three runs, a double, a triple and two RBI. Criscuolo went 4-for-10 at the plate as well as registered a team-high four RBI.
HARPER PICKS UP FIRST WINJason Harper picked up his first win as well as the Owls first win of the season against Nyack. Over seven innings of pitching, he recorded one run on eight hits as well as posted a walk and six strikeouts.
RENTAS NAMED TO HONOR ROLLRookie
Brandon Rentas was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll after his performance last week. He started on the mound for the Owls and pitched a seven inning shutout in the 1-0 win against Concordia on Saturday evening. He gave up two hits while striking out seven and walking three batters.
