NAUGATUCK, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team snapped a two-game losing streak as well as improved to 11-22-1 on the season as the Owls defeated in-state foe Post University 11-1 on Monday evening at Naugatuck High School under the lights.
Following the loss, Post drops to 13-28 on the season after going 6-for-33 at the plate and recording just a run in the bottom of the first. Southern Connecticut finished the evening going 14-for-43 as well as recorded 10 RBI.

Cole Bryant (Newington, Conn.) earned the "W" for the Owls and collected his win on the mound for the visitors this season. Bryant pitched seven innings and allowed one run, six hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Redshirt junior
Gary Flowers (East Haven, Conn.) and senior
Jordan Picini (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded three strikeouts a piece over the last two innings.
Four different Owls registered three hits at the plate while
Jake Lieberman (Commack, N.Y.) and
Jake Paul (Kingston, N.Y.) recorded a team-high four RBI. Junior
Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.) allowed a team-high three runs to scored while also going 3-for-5 at the plate.
Southern Connecticut struck first against the Eagles in the top of the second as
Jake Paul (Kingston, N.Y.) scored off an RBI single from
McNeill Finnegan (Old Saybrook, Conn.) to give the Owls the 1-0 lead. But, in the following half inning Post answered back scoring a run with one out and runners on second and third.
Shortly after, Southern Connecticut scored two runs on four hits despite leaving three runners on base in the top of the third. Red-shirt sophomore
Mike Giordano (Norwalk, Conn.) started off the rally with a single to left before he advanced to second after a single from
Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.). With one out, Giordano now on third,
Jake Lieberman (Commack, N.Y.) single to shortstop, scoring Giordano and Paul's single up the middle allowed Joyce to score making the score 3-1, in favor of the visitors.
Following a scoreless fourth inning, Southern Connecticut struck again, this time scoring five runs on five hits extending its lead to seven, 8-1. Paul led off the inning scoring three runs, including himself, after hitting the ball over the fence for his second home run of the season. Up 6-1,
Jake DeRosa (North Haven, Conn.) continued the rally scoring the next run for the Owls before Finnegan crossed home on the passed ball and the final two outs were collected.
Solid pitching from Bryant, sent the Eagles down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fifth before
Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) crossed home giving the Owls the commanding 9-1 lead, entering the sixth.
The Owls added two more runs in the top of the eighth, 11-1, before securing the road victory over the Eagles.
Southern Connecticut returns to action on April 27 against the University of New Haven. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at The Ballpark at SCSU.
