Field Hockey Opens Campaign With Two Games This Weekend

The Owls face Mansfield and Shippensburg this weekend.

The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team opens the 2016 season with two games in Mansfield, Pa. The Owls will face Shippensburg on Saturday for their season opener. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. The following day, SCSU will take on Mansfield in a 1:30 p.m. start.

Shippensburg has an 18-3 edge in the all-time series with the Owls.

THE CAPTAINS
Head Coach Kelley Frassinelli has announced that seniors Zoe Fanolis and Vienna Pallisco will serve as the Owls team captains for the 2016 season.

TEN OWLS EARN NFHCA ACADEMIC HONORS
SCSU had 13 student-athletes receive recognition from the NFHCA for academic success in 2015-16: Emily Allen, Lauren Anderson, Madison Cole, Kimberly Driscoll, Zoe Fanolis, Kassi Hansen, Bailey McGinnis, Alicia Morgan, Colleen Murphy, Vienna Pallisco, Natalia Prukalski, Ashley Sanzaro and Jacqueline Touzos.

TEAM CAPTURES NFHCA ACADEMIC TEAM LAURELS
For the ninth year in a row, the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team was recognized with National Academic Team honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year.

The Owls are back in action on Sept. 7 against Franklin Pierce.
