NEW HAVEN, Conn – The Southern Connecticut State University softball team split its doubleheader today against AIC to claim its first conference win of the season.

Giuliana D'Arcangelo (Brookfield, Conn.) led the Owls and went 2-for-6, with one run and one RBI along with junior
Victoria Ceballos (Bridgeport, Conn.), who pitched a complete game to shut out the Yellow Jackets and scored the winning run for the Owls in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Owls came out strong, scoring one run in the first inning off a grounder by D'Arcangelo to bring in freshman
Sara Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.). Neither team would score again until the sixth inning where the Owls put up one more off a sac fly to bring in Buscetto and give the Owls a 2-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets then scored two runs in the sixth to tie the game at 2-2. The Yellow Jackets then hit a walk-off single at the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
The Owls kept their bats hot in the second game, scoring three runs in the fourth off of hits from D'Arcangelo, senior Arianna Tedeschi (Deer Park, N.Y.) and freshman
Julia Lener (Danbury, Conn.) to bring in D'Arcangelo, Ceballos and Tedeschi to make the score 3-0. The Owls never looked back to give them a commanding 3-0 win for their first NE10 win of the 2017 campaign.
