Field Hockey Set To Host Pace, Merrimack This Week

The Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team will return home after a four-game road swing to host two conference games this week at Jess Dow Field. First on Wednesday, they are set to host No. 8 nationally ranked Pace University for a primetime matchup with the Setters. Then on Saturday, they will host a Homecoming morning game against No. 4 nationally ranked Merrimack College. This game will be played in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

ALL-TIME VS. PACE
Pace holds the all-time series with the Owls, 5-0.
Last Time Out: Pace took the win in Pleasantville early this season, 6-0. (Recap 10/3/18)

ALL-TIME VS. MERRIMACK
The Owls hold the all-time series with Merrimack, 16-15.
Last Time Out: The Warriors took the win 12-1 in North Andover. (Recap 10/7/17)

FIRST TIMER
Sophomore Julia Kostek collected the first defensive save of her career in the Owls' game against Pace on October 3. 

CLIMBING THE RANKINGS
With 132 saves made on the year and 602 made in her career to-date, junior Brianna Craft is 11 saves away from passing Wendy Velander (1996-1999) and obtaining sole possession of the No. 4 spot in SCSU field hockey history for all-time saves. 
 
CRAFT RANKS ON THE NCAA & NE10 LEADERBOARDS
Junior Brianna Craft leads the NCAA DII in saves per game with 12.0, while leading the NE10 in saves with 132. 

OBERLY SCORES FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL
Senior Amanda Oberly scored the first goal of her collegiate career off of a penalty stroke in the Owls' loss to Mansfield on Sept. 9.

CRAFT, MIGLIARO TABBED 2018 CAPTAINS
Head Coach Kelley Frassinelli has announced that junior Brianna Craft and senior Jana Migliaro will serve as the Owls' team captains for the 2018 season.

WELCOME ABOARD
The Owls welcome five newcomers to the squad for the 2018 season – Elana Craft, Julia Schaff, Alyssa Haskins, Lauren Wright and Danielle Parent.

IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL
The Owls were selected 13th in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll. 
 
CRAFT RANKS AMONG NCAA LEADERS
Last year, junior Brianna Craft was ranked No. 1 in the NCAA DII  in saves with 266 and No. 2 in saves per game with 14.78.

TEAM CAPTURES NFHCA ACADEMIC TEAM LAURELS
For the 11th year in a row, the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team was recognized with National Academic Team honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. 

ON DECK:
The Owls head to Worcester, Mass. on October 23 for a 4 p.m. conference matchup with Assumption College.
