Baseball Squares Off Against Post In Boca Raton

The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team will face Post University on Friday, Mar. 15 at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. The Owls are coming off back-to-back wins on Thursday against Caldwell, 22-2, and Lynn, 5-4, and stand at 7-9 overall. Post has lost three-straight games and sit at 2-7 on the young season.

THEIR LAST TIME OUT
  • The Owls enjoyed a offensive explosion on Thursday, Mar. 14 in a pair of wins against Caldwell and Lynn.
  • Against the Cougars, the Owls set season-highs in runs scored (22), RBI (19), walks (15) and batters hit-by-pitches (6).
  • The Owls' 22 runs were their most since they scored the same amount against Lynn on Mar. 22, 2016.
  • Nate Carney picked up his first win of the season with his longest outing of the year as he held Caldwell to one run while scattering nine hits over seven strong innings. Carney struck-out a season-high nine batters while not issuing a walk.
  • Carney's nine strikeouts tie his most in a start since he struck-out nine batters against Southern New Hampshire on Apr. 8, 2017 as a freshman.
  • Carney also ran his streak of innings without a walk to 21 1/3 innings over five appearances. Going back to last season, has gone 39 innings without issuing a walk and has just one in his last 45 innings pitched.
  • John Spoto (Stamford, Conn.) drove in five runs while Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) was 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Cameron O'Toole (Grafton, Mass.) also drove in three runs and scored four more. Nolan Cloutier (Wallingford, Conn.) continued his hot streak with a pair of hits as well as two RBI and three runs scored.
  • Against Lynn, the Owls received another strong performance from its pitching staff. Joe Nemchek (Trumbull, Conn.) picked up his first career win after holding Lynn to four runs – three earned – on five hits over 5 2/3. Quantique White (New London, Conn.) picked up his second save of the season, and 12th of his career, after logging 3 1/3 innings of scoreless ball while scattering two hits and striking out four.
  • Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) was 3-for-5 with a RBI while Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) put together a 2-for-5 day with a run scored. 
  • Mac Finnegan (Old Saybrook, Conn.0 also drove in two runs while John Spoto (Stamford, Conn.) drove in his sixth run of the day. 
THE STREAK
Sophomore Connor Redahan is enjoying a break-out season for the Owls and is currently the owner of a 15-game hitting streak in which he's hitting .404 (23-57). It's the longest at Southern since Nick Lamberti produced a 17-game hitting streak in 2017.

THE CLOUT
Nolan Cloutier is also off to a phenomenal start to the season. With a pair of hits against Caldwell, Cloutier has now produced nine multiple-hit games, including seven in his last nine outings. He currently checks-in with a .393 average (22-56) while also leading the team with eight doubles. 

NE10 HONOR ROLL
  • Cloutier and senior Ronnie Rossomando (Stratford, Conn.) were named to the Northeast 10 Conference Baseball Weekly Honor Roll, as announced on Monday, Mar. 12, 2019.
  • During the Owls' weekend series against Concordia and Queens, Cloutier hit a team-best .667 (8-12) while also leading the Owls with four doubles and six runs scored in a 2-1 weekend against Concordia and Queens. Cloutier opened the weekend with a 2-for-3 day with a double, RBI and runs scored in a loss to Concordia on Friday. On Saturday, Cloutier was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in a 4-0 win against Concordia before closing the weekend with a 4-for-5 day with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored in a 15-12 win against Queens. Cloutier also boosted his batting average from .400 to .486 and has multiple hits in seven of his last eight games.
  • First-year Owl Rossomando, a transfer from NCAA Division I UConn, picked up his first victory as an Owl with a complete game shutout against Concordia. Rossomando spun nine strong innings, scattering six hits while striking out eight. It was the first career complete game and shutout of his collegiate career and also a career-best strikeouts.

Following its matchup against Post, the Owls will play the final game of their Spring Break trip on Saturday, Mar. 16 when they face Merrimack at 11 a.m. at the Santaluces Athletic Complex in Lantana, Fla.
