CONTINUING THE ROAD SWING
The Southern Connecticut softball squad will head to Springfield, Mass. for a weekend extravaganza with American International College. On Saturday, they'll play the first day of back-to-back doubleheaders with game one set for 12 p.m. On Sunday, they'll play the second day of doubleheaders beginning at 12 p.m. once again.
 
The Owls will keep their eyes on the Yellow Jackets sophomore infielder Kacie Allison who leads AIC with a .293 batting average, 12 hits and five RBI on the season. Allison has also seen time in the circle for AIC tossing 38.2 innings and has a 1-5 record thus far. Southern Connecticut is coming off a 1-1 showing with Mercy College, where Sara Buscetto, who leads the Owls with a .333 batting average and 23 hits, exploded on a 4-for-8 day and her first home run of the year. With Buscetto, Southern will look to capitalize on the strong play from their freshmen: Jacqueline Dumont, Liz DeRosa and Alexa Bacoulis. Dumont has heightened her play in the past week and has 19 hits, and a team-leading 15 RBI and three home runs on the year.
 
 
ALL-TIME VS. AIC
  • The Yellow Jackets hold the all-time series with the Owls, 47-30-1.
  • Southern Connecticut capped the 2018 season against AIC winning the first game of the doubleheader 5-1 and dropping game two 4-3.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Owls split a pair of games with Mercy College, a 5-3 win and a 6-3 loss in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
  • Junior Sara Buscetto had a breakout day where she went 4-for-8 including her first home run of the season, three runs, two RBI and a stolen base.
  • Jacqueline Dumont continued her hot streak going 3-for-7 including her third home run of the season, while adding three RBI and two runs.
  • Dumont leads the team in RBI with 15 after she tallied three against Mercy. She is also tied for six in the Northeast 10 in RBI and home runs with 3.
  • Buscetto sits tied for third in stolen bases in the NE10, with nine on the year. She ranked fourth in hits in the NE10 with 23 and 11th in runs with 11.
  • Buscetto extended her hitting streak to six games, while Dumont has a mini hitting streak of three games going.
  • Game one was Jazmyn Martinez's third complete game pitched this season. She is two games shy of her freshman year season total when she pitched five games of seven-or-more innings.
 
BOTTEON, DUMONT TABBED WITH NE10 WEEKLY HONORS
Botteon slashed .300/.300/.300 across the board going 6-for-20 at the plate adding six RBI. Her two RBI single in the first inning of game two against Assumption on March 25 tied the game and the Owls never looked back as they went on to capture a 12-4 victory in six innings. Dumont slashed .450/.450/.700 for the Owls going 9-for-20 including two doubles and one home run. She collected seven RBI and scored six runs through six games.
 
FESHLER, BUSCETTO TABBED AS 2019 CAPTAINS
Senior 
Madison Feshler (Middletown, Conn.) and junior Sara Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.) have been chosen to lead the 2019 softball squad, as announced by head coach Jillian Rispoli.
 
IN THE NE10 PRESEASON RANKINGS
The Southern Connecticut State University softball team has been selected to finish fifth in the Southwest Division of the NE10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON
The Southern Connecticut State University softball team finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 11-31.
