SHORT HOME TRIP
The Southern Connecticut softball squad will host the Adelphi Panthers on Wednesday, April 3 for a pair of games at Pelz Field in New Haven. Adelphi currently sits first in the Southwest Division, while the Owls sit in sixth. The Panthers player to watch will be Emily Whitman, who leads the team in hits with 28 and runs with 18 and Lauren Sandelier, who leads the team in RBI with 15, doubles with six and third in hits with 17.
 
The Owls are led by a trio of freshmen: Alexa Bacoulis, Liz DeRosa and Jacqueline Dumont; all who have been steady offensive presences for Southern Connecticut. Collectively they have 32 of SCSU's 61 RBI, 64 of 159 hits and 29 of 72 runs scored. Following the Owls game against the Panthers, they'll head north to Colchester, Vt. and Manchester, N.H. to face Saint Michael's College and Saint Anselm College on April 6 and April 7.
 
 
ALL-TIME VS. ADELPHI
  • The Panthers hold the 39-22 all-time series with the Owls.
  • Southern Connecticut fell to Adelphi, 8-6 and 13-2 in both games of the doubleheader the last time these squads faced each other almost a year ago on April 5, 2018.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Owls went 1-3 against AIC this weekend with a 3-0 win and a 7-0 loss on Saturday, March 30 and then 6-1 and 5-4 losses on Sunday, March 31, both in Springfield, Mass.
  • In the four-game trip at AIC this weekend, freshman Ally Petrella recorded the first four hits of her collegiate career and recorded her first set of doubles with two in game two on Sunday.
  • Jacqueline Dumont leads the team in RBI with 18. She is also tied for second in the Northeast 10 in RBI and tied for fourth in home runs with 3.
  • Buscetto is second in stolen bases in the NE10, with 12 on the year. She ranks fourth in hits in the NE10 with 26 and tied for sixth in runs with 14.
 
BOTTEON, DUMONT TABBED WITH NE10 WEEKLY HONORS
Cailey Botteon and Jacqueline Dumont were tabbed with NE10 weekly honor roll accolades for the week of March 25. Botteon slashed .300/.300/.300 across the board going 6-for-20 at the plate adding six RBI. Her two RBI single in the first inning of game two against Assumption on March 25 tied the game and the Owls never looked back as they went on to capture a 12-4 victory in six innings. Dumont slashed .450/.450/.700 for the Owls going 9-for-20 including two doubles and one home run. She collected seven RBI and scored six runs through six games.
 
FESHLER, BUSCETTO TABBED AS 2019 CAPTAINS
Senior 
Madison Feshler (Middletown, Conn.) and junior Sara Buscetto (Waterford, Conn.) have been chosen to lead the 2019 softball squad, as announced by head coach Jillian Rispoli.
 
IN THE NE10 PRESEASON RANKINGS
The Southern Connecticut State University softball team has been selected to finish fifth in the Southwest Division of the NE10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON
The Southern Connecticut State University softball team finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 11-31.
