Southern Connecticut men's track & field will travel to Boston, Mass. for the 2022-23 Northeast 10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 16-17 at The TRACK at New Balance.

The Owls In The NE10 Indoor Championships
  • SCSU Men's Indoor Track & Field have won five consecutive NE10 Indoor titles and 16 all-time: 2003-14, 2017-20, 2022; there was no championship in 2021
  • In addition, the Owls have finished second, three times: 2002, 2015, 2016
  • The Owls have won seven Most Outstanding Athlete honors, the lastest going to Turner Kelly in 2018 and 2019 
2021-22 NE10 Indoor Championships Recap
Individual Champions
  • Nigel Green (Shirley, N.Y.) won the 200-Meter Dash with a time of 21.52, the eighth best time in program history.
  • The team Terrell Patterson (Waterbury, Conn.), Shea Kenney (Groton, Conn.), Jonathan Volpe (Naugatuck, Conn.), and Marquis Whyte (New London, Conn.) won the 4x800-Meter Relay with a time of 7:48.85, the fastest 4x800-meter relay time by Southern since running a 7:42.01 on May 11, 2019. 
  • Cameron Belton (Baltic, Conn.) won the Shot Put with a new NE10 Championship Meet throw of 17.68 meters, the sixth best mark in program history. His throw was also a new personal-best. 
  • Nate Llanos (Danbury, Conn.) won the Pole Vault with a personal-best mark of 4.83 meters.
  • Shane Smith (Pawcatuck, Conn.) won the Heptathlon with 4529 points, the eighth most points in program history. 
Track Medalists
  • Green finished in second place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94. 
  • Along with Green in the 200-meter dash, Christ N'Dabian (Bridgeport, Conn.) finished in third place with a time of 22.10. N'Dabian recorded a personal-best time during the preliminaries at 22.03. 
  • N'Dabian also finished in third place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.88.
  • Patterson finished in second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.96. 
  • Jonathan Volpe (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished in second place in the mile run with a personal-best time of 4:11.82. the 13th best in program history. 
  • Jake Mattei (Bethany, Conn.) finished in second place in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:49.72, while Chris LeBeau (Bristol, Conn.) finished in third place with a time of 14:51.31.  
  • The 4x400-meter relay team of Ramsley Exantus (Stratford, Conn.), Hunter Dale (Storrs, Conn.), Tariq Phillips (Waterbury, Conn.), and Milan Spisek (Easton, Conn.) finished in third place with a time of 3:20.06
  • The distance medley relay team of Volpe, Dale, Kenney, and Owen Gagne (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished in second place with a time of 10:09.53.
Field Medalists
  • Bernardo Mbaya (Waterbury, Conn.) finished in second place in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 16.31 meters, while Jacob Meadows (New Milford, Conn.) finished in third place with a personal-best throw of 15.75 meters. 
  • Mbaya finished in second place in the weight throw with a mark of 15.85 meters, while Robinson, Jr. finished in third place with a throw of 15.84 meters. 
  • During the first day of competition, Spisek finished in second place with a mark of 4.58 meters, while Oliver Hayes (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished in third place with a time of 4.43 meters. 
  • During the first day of competition, Jaylynn Cundiff (Brockton, Mass.) momentarily set a new conference championship record in long jump with a personal-best leap of 7.51 meters and finished in second place. Cundiff's leap was also the second best in program history. Joshua Lanzieri (Seymour, Conn.) finished in third place with a personal-best leap of 7.04 meters. 
  • In his first NE10 Indoor Championship Meet, Cameron Belton set the new NE10 Indoor Championship Meet shot put record with a throw of 17.68 meters. He broke former Southern athlete Michael Cameron's mark of 17.38 meters, set in 2015. 
  • Southern has won the last 10 NE10 Indoor shot put championships. The last time they did not win was in 2011. They have won 16 of the 20 indoor shot put championships. 
  • Southern has now won four consecutive indoor pole vault titles, and 17 of 20 all-time, after Llanos' title. 
  • Southern has won all four heptathlon championships after Smith finished in first place.
