SCSU Softball Sweeps AIC, 6-0 and 8-3; Perucki K's 14 In Complete Game Shutout

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Southern Connecticut softball swept a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader at American International, winning the first game, 6-0, and the second game, 8-3. The Owls improved to 7-9 overall and 3-1 in the NE10 while AIC dropped to 3-15 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Jessica Perucki struck-out 14 in a complete game shutout while Rachel Miller was 5-for-7 with four RBI for the doubleheader. Gabby Festa and Dominique DeLutri broth drove in three runs in the twin-bill while Katrina Roy was 3-for-4 with three walks.
In the first game, Jessica Perucki continued her dominance against NE10 opponents, this time spinning a seven-inning, complete game shutout in a 6-0 win in Game 1 of its doubleheader at AIC. Perucki won her third-straight decision after allowing six hits and matching her career-best of 14 strikeouts against the Yellow Jackets. Perucki struck-out 14 of the 28 batters she faced in the game. It was Perucki's second dominant performance of the weekend after she struck-out 12 in 10 Innings in a 4-1 win against Assumption on Friday, Mar. 24.  

At the plate, Gabby Festa and Dominique DeLutri both drove in two runs while Jacqueline Dumont was 4-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Katrina Roy was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Rachel Miller was 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

Miller was on fire against AIC as she was 2-for-3 with three RBI in the second game. Festa, DeLutri, Angela Barresi (2) and Paige Delier all drove in runs in the game while Roy was 1-for-1 with three walks. The star of the show was Owls' starting pitcher Emma Gorham. Gorham picked up the complete game win after allowing three runs on six hits while striking out eight.

Perucki is now 5-3 for the year with a 1.43 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP as well as a .192 batting average against. Perucki has also recorded 71 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings. In her first two NE10 conference starts, Perucki is 2-0 with a 0.53 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched. In addition, she now owns a 13-inning scoreless streak.

Southern returns to action with a pair of NE10 doubleheaders against Saint Michael's on Apr. 1 and Franklin Pierce on Apr. 2 at Pelz Field in New Haven, Conn. with a 12 p.m. start set for both.
