Nationally-ranked No. 24 Southern Connecticut baseball will host Pace for a Northeast 10 Conference four-game series on Friday, Apr. 28 and Sunday, Apr. 30 at The Ballpark at SCSU. The Owls and Setters will play the first two games of the series – a 9-inning game followed by a 7-inning game – on Friday, Apr. 28 at 1 p.m. On Sunday, Apr. 30, SCSU Baseball will honor Zach Bedryczuk, Tommy Benincaso, Andrew Eng, Connor Goggin, Nick Guarino, Zack Healy, Kevin Lucey, Colin Mason and Matt Smith for Senior Day prior to the start of the Owls' 12 p.m. doubleheader against Pace. That twin bill will start with a 7-inning game followed by a 9-inning game.

The NE10 Standings
Southern is currently in first place in the NE10 Southwest Division with a record of 10-2 and leads second-place Le Moyne at 10-4. The Owls swept the Dolphins in four games earlier this year and own the tiebreaker. New Haven, whom the Owls defeated in three of their four games in West Haven, sits in third place at 7-5 in the conference, followed by Pace at 4-8 in fourth place. Southern will face fifth-place Adelphi (4-10) next weekend and also own a 3-1 mark against sixth-place Saint Rose (3-9) after taking three of four last weekend.
 
Owls Ranked 24th In NCWBA NCAA Division II National Top 25
  • Southern Connecticut baseball cracked the Top 25 this week, ascending to the No. 24 spot in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division II Top 25 national poll. The Owls were previously receiving votes in the last poll and jump two spots. 
  • The Owls join No. 11 Southern New Hampshire as the only Northeast 10 Conference teams in the national rankings, while New Haven is currently receiving votes.
  • Billy Sullivan currently leads the Owls in average (.378), hits (46), runs scored (46) and stolen bases (16) while also collecting 10 doubles and 27 RBI. 
  • Mike Ferrett is hitting .369 (48-130) with three home runs, a team-leading 12 doubles and 37 RBI with 33 runs scored.
  •  Connor Goggin has hit at a .346 (44-127) clip to date, with 11 doubles, six home runs and 34 RBI as well as 38 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.
  •  Andrew Eng leads Southern with 11 home runs and 45 RBI as well as 40 walks and a .483 on-base percentage while also slugging a team-best .645. Eng is also second on the Owls roster with 44 runs scored. 
  • Colin Mason checks in with 45 hits and a .333 average with 31 RBI and 32 runs scored. 
  • On the mound, Nick Guarino is 8-1 with a 3.94 ERA in 11 starts and also leads the team with 44 strikeouts and 64 innings pitched. 
  • Tommy Benincaso is 5-0 with a 4.56 ERA in eight starts while Mike Szturma is 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA. 
  • Steve Phillips rounds out the Owls rotation with a 4-3 record. 
  • Tommy Hughes leads the team with nine saves and 22 strikeouts across 17 innings in a team-high 13 appearances.
  • Peter Phillips is 4-0 with a 3.60 out of the bullpen. Phillips has pitched 20 innings over 11 appearances.
