Southern Connecticut State University baseball will open Northeast-10 Conference Championship tournament play on Tuesday, May 9 when it hosts Pace for a First Round matchup at 3:30 p.m. at The Ballpark at SCSU. The No. 2 Owls finished the regular season with a 29-15 overall record including a 12-8 mark in conference play while Pace snagged the No. 3 seed with a 9-11 NE10 record as well as a 29-18 record of the year.

The Owls All-Time In The NE10 Tournament
  • Southern owns an all-time record of 13-23 in 36 NE10 tournament games all-time, reaching four championships finals.  
  • Southern ended a streak of five-straight NE10 tournament losses when it shocked top-seeded Adelphi on its home field in the 2019 tournament.  
  • The Owls lost to Le Moyne in the First Round last season, 6-0.
  • All-time, Southern is 5-9 in 14 NE10 First Round Games.  
  • This is the third postseason meeting between SCSU and Pace, all-time. Southern won the first meeting in 2008, 5-3, while Pace defeated Southern, 5-2, in 2017.
  • The Owls have made four NE10 Championship finals (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008) finishing as the runner-up each year.   
All-Time vs. Pace
  • Southern Connecticut and Pace have played each other 54 times since their first meeting in 2005.
  • The Setters hold the edge in the all-time series with 29 wins in 54 games.
  • Southern has won seven of the last 10 meetings between the two teams dating back to the 2021 season.
  • The Owls and Setters split the four-game regular season series this year, 2-2. 
Scouting The Owls
  • Billy Sullivan finished the regular season with team-highs in average (.379), hits (67) and runs scored (51), as well as 17 stolen bases.
  • Sullivan also totaled 10 doubles, two home runs and 31 RBI while posting a .480 slugging and .448 on-base for a .928 OPS.
  • Connor Goggin hit .338 (52-154) wth 11 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 40 RBi as well as 40 runs scored.
  • Goggin was also 12-for-15 in stolen bae attempts and posted a .630 slugging and .458 on-base for a 1.088 OPS.
  • Mike Ferrett was second on the Owls roster with 53 hits while batting .335 (53-158) while leading the team with 13 doubles. Ferrett also blasted three home runs, drove in 39 runs and scored 35 more.
  • Colin Mason hit .294 (48-163) in his first go-around with the Owls. Mason also totaled a home run, 33 RBi and 35 runs scored.
  • Andrew Eng led the team, and also the NE10, with 12 home runs while driving in 46 runs and scoring 47 more while also breaking the SCSU record for walks in a season. He stands at 51 for the year.
  • Eng owns a .612 slugging and a team-best, and NE10 leading, .495 on-base percentage for a team-high 1.107 OPS.
  • Jack Drewry hit .285 (35-123) with six doubles, 21 RBI and 17 runs scored.
  • Derrick Jagello hit .243 (36-148) with 24 RBI and 24 runs scored.
  • Zach Bedryczuk was second on the team with 11 doubles while also driving in 20 runs and scoring 25 more.
  • Chad Fedeli drove in 21 runs and scored 28 while leading the Owls with seven sacrifice hits.
  • On the mound, Nick Guarino was 9-1 with a 3.84 ERA while leading the team with 52 strikeouts and 75 innings pitched.
  • In conference play, Guarino was 5-0 in seven starts with a 2.98 ERA in 42 1/3 innings pitched.
  • Mike Szturma was 2-3 in 10 starts with a 4.32 ERA with 49 K's in 50 innings pitched.
  • Tommy Benincaso was 6-1 in 10 starts with a 4.60 ERA across 60 2/3 innings pitched.
  • Steve Phillips was 4-4 in 11 starts with a 5.98 ERA in 52 2/3 innings.
  • Tommy Hughes led the team with 10 saves and 24 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings pitched while appearing in a team-leading 15 games.
  • Peter Phillips compiled a 4-0 record in 13 appearances out of the bullpen while hosting a 3.04 ERA in 23 2/3 innings. Phillips also recorded two saves for the year.
  • In conference play, Phillips allowed one earned run in 12 1/3 for a 0.73 ERA and was 3-0 with two saves.
  • Tommy Hughes recorded seven saves and nine K's in nine innings out of the pen.
  • Spencer Fox held a 1.69 ERA in five NE10 games with 17 K's in 10 2/3 innings pitched. 
Scouting The Setters
  • Pace enters the NE10 First Round with an overall mark of 29-18 that includes a 9-11 mark in NE10 play in the Southwest Division.
  • The Setters have won five of their last eight games of the season entering Tuesday's matchup.
  • Mason Baronian leads Pace with a .361 (60-166) average while also leading the team in hits (60) and doubles (12) while also totaling two home runs, 23 RBI and 31 runs scored.
  • Mitchell McCabe finished the regular season batting .350 (55-157) while leading the Setters in home runs (10), RBI (39) and runs scored (43) as well as a .605 slugging percentage and .442 on-base for a 1.047 OPS. McCabe also led the team with 17 stolen bases.
  • Anthony Labita hit .321 (50-156) with seven doubles, five home runs, 24 RBI and 28 runs scored.
  • Luke Jacobi checks-in at .298 (50-168) with five home runs, 24 Rbi and 28 runs scored.
  • Matthew Rinaldi hit .276 (50-168) with nine doubles, 34 RBI and 33 runs scored as well as a team-leading 32 walks and nine stolen bases.
  • Josh Miller also scored 25 runs while driving in 15 more as Hunter Goldstein and Benjamin Tullo both drove in 25 runs each.
  • On the mound, Patrick Gleason was 7-2 with a 2.05 ERA with 60 K's in 66 innings pitched with three complete games.
  • Vincent Civitella was 5-3 with a 2.63 ERA with 61 K's in 51 1/3 innings pitched.
  • Robert Gilchrist was 3-0 in four starts with a 2.78 ERA, with two saves, while Brendan McCann was 4-4 in eight starts with a 2.43 ERA.
  • Dan Brown and Michael Roll both totaled three saves each.
