Marquis Ward Breaks Meet Record in the 55 Meter Dash at Art Kadish Elm City Challenge

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut Men's Indoor Track Freshman Marquis Ward broke the meet record for the 55 Meter Dash at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge on Friday, December 13th.

Ward, a Meriden native, ran a 6.33 in his first home meet, finishing first in the 55m dash. That beat the previous meet record of 6.35 and was a personal-best for Ward.

The Owls saw plenty more success in day 1 of the meet, recording five more personal bests and collecting several top 3 finishes. Nolan Freeman PR'd twice in the prelims and finals of the 55m dash. His time of 6.36 in the final earned him a second-place finish behind Ward.

Three first-year Owls hit personal-bests in the Long Jump. Lawrence Hicks jumped 6.54m (21-05.50), Holden Speed jumped 6.28m (20-07.25), and JC Joyner jumped 5.84m (19-02.00).

Mateo Viviano and Peyton Adams finished first and second in Pole Vault. Viviano reached 4.40m (14-05.25) and Adams reached a personal-best 4.10m (13-05.25).

Osaretin Osagie finished second in the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.67 seconds. Ty Phelan came in third in the 600m at 1:28.51.

In the Heptathlon, Dylan Torok finished first in the high jump (1.93m), second in the long jump (6.36m) and the Shot Put (12.03m), and third in the 55m (6.87).

The Owls return tomorrow, Saturday, December 13 for the second day of the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge.
