PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse fell to Pace University, 19-8 in an NE10 matchup on Wednesday night. The Owls dropped to an overall record of 8-6 and an NE10 record of 3-5 while the Setters improved to an overall record of 13-0 and an NE10 record of 7-0.
The NE10 leader in goals,
Kirsten McIntire led the team with four goals and four points.
Morgan Reilly recorded two goals and three points.
Savannah Feinberg and
Bailey McDermott both had a goal and a point for the Owls. For assists, Reilly,
Allie Palmer, and
Anna Meserve had a team-best of one assist.
Maggie Kallinich and
Sarah Robbins had a team-best of four ground balls and four caused turnovers. For draw controls,
Savannah Feinberg led the team with six draw controls and
Amelia Mansfield was one of the team leaders in draws, with five of her own against Pace.
In the first quarter, the Setters got on the board with two goals in the first three minutes of play. The Owls responded with two back-to-back goals by
Kirsten McIntire, to tie the game up. Pace scored another goal minutes later, but it was Southern Connecticut who ended the quarter with three goals. McIntire scored her third of the game, then
Bailey McDermott scored with an assist by
Morgan Reilly and with an assist by
Allie Palmer, Reilly found the back of the net as well. Southern led Pace, with a 5-3 advantage, heading into the second.
In the second quarter, the Setters' offense scored efficiently as they added five goals to their total. With seven minutes left,
Savannah Feinberg scored her first goal of the game, but Pace scored another goal, just seconds later. Reilly blasted another goal into the net, for her second of the day, with an assist by
Anna Meserve. Before the half ended, Pace scored their 10
th goal. At halftime, the Setters had a lead of 10-7 over the Owls.
In the third quarter, Pace keep pressing on strongly, as they scored four goals, bringing the lead to 14-7. In the fourth quarter,
Kirsten McIntire scored her fourth and final goal of the day from the free-position spot; however, the Setters recorded five more goals in between and finished the game with a 19-8 victory over the Owls.
The Owls will return to action on Saturday, April 20 against Assumption University at 12:00 p.m. in Worcester, Mass. for an NE10 matchup.
