WORCESTER, Mass. - Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse was defeated by Assumption University, 12-7 on Saturday afternoon. The Owls dropped to an overall record of 8-7, and an NE10 record of 3-6 while the Greyhounds improved to an overall record of 8-6 with an NE10 record of 5-3.
Alexandra Ruel and
Kirsten McIntire led the team with two goals and two points. Three players had a goal and a point:
Morgan Reilly,
Savannah Feinberg and
Allie Palmer. For draw controls,
Savannah Feinberg and
Amelia Mansfield led the team with three draws. For ground balls,
Hannah Holmes had a team-best of four and
Sarah Robbins had three. For caused turnovers,
Michela Rutigliano led the team with two against the Greyhounds.
In the first quarter, Assumption got on the board with a quick goal, then, just minutes later, they scored another goal, giving them a 2-0 lead. The Owls answered back with a goal from
Allie Palmer. After that,
Morgan Reilly scored the second goal for Southern, to even up the game. Seconds later,
Kirsten McIntire scored her first of the day, with an assist by
Abigail Nolan, to give the Owls the lead. However, the Greyhounds tied the game up again before the quarter ended.
In the second quarter, Assumption scored their fourth goal of the day but minutes later,
Savannah Feinberg scored to tie the game yet again. At halftime, both teams were deadlocked at 4-4.
In the third quarter, the Greyhounds' offense continued to press forward with their scoring momentum as they scored three straight goals to start the second half.
Alexandra Ruel scored her first of the game, to give the Owls' their fifth goal. Nonetheless, Assumption scored another goal before the half ended, to extend their lead to 8-5.
In the fourth quarter, Assumption blasted two more goals into the back of the net. Then, Ruel scored her second of the day for Southern. The Greyhounds recorded two goals in the next few minutes as
Kirsten McIntire would score the last goal for the Owls, with less than a minute left. Assumption finished the game out with a 12-7 victory over Southern Connecticut.
The Owls will return to action on Saturday, April 27 against Saint Anselm College in an NE10 matchup at 1:00 p.m. in Manchester, New Hampshire.
