MANCHESTER, N.H. - Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse fell to NE10 opponent, Saint Anselm College, 13-9 on Saturday afternoon. The Owls dropped to an overall record of 8-8 and an NE10 record of 3-7, while the Hawks improved to an overall record of 10-6 and an NE10 record of 6-4.
Kirsten McIntire led the team with three goals and three points.
Anna Meserve recorded two goals and three points. Four Owls scored a goal and had a point:
Morgan Reilly,
Allie Welder,
Bailey McDermott and
Jordan Fisher. For assists,
Alexandra Ruel had a team-best of two assists while Meserve and Reilly each had one assist.
Sarah Robbins led the team with five ground balls, while
Amelia Mansfield,
Hannah Holmes and
Anna Meserve had a team-best of two caused turnovers. For draw controls,
Savannah Feinberg led Southern with three draws.
In the first quarter, Saint Anselm started off strong with a three-goal advantage within the first eight minutes of play. However,
Anna Meserve scored the Owls' first goal of the day, with an assist from Ruel. Closing the first quarter, the Hawks responded with their fourth goal of the game, to take a 4-1 lead.
In the second quarter, Saint Anselm found the back of the net quickly but yet again, Meserve found the back of the net too for Southern Connecticut. After that, the Hawks would go to score four more goals in the quarter.
Kirsten McIntire scored her first of the day, unassisted, to give the Owls hope of a comeback heading into the half.
In the third quarter, the Hawks continued scoring effectively despite the Owls' efforts, as they recorded three goals in the first few minutes of the half. McIntire scored back-to-back goals, as one of the goals had an assist come from Ruel, which was her second assist of the game.
Allie Welder blasted a shot into the goal, for her first goal of the day. Saint Anselm would score their final goal of the game, to take a 13-6 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Southern Connecticut scored three goals, to cut the Hawks' lead with minutes left.
Bailey McDermott scored her first of the game,
Morgan Reilly recorded a shot into the back of the net and
Jordan Fisher posted a goal with an assist by Meserve. Although the Owls worked hard to shut out Saint Anselm in the final quarter, the Hawks got the 13-9 victory.
The Owls will return to action on Tuesday, April 30 at 4:00 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Connecticut for an NE10 matchup against Bentley University.
