SCSU Women's Lacrosse Defeated by University of New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse was defeated by Elm-City rival, the University of New Haven, 12-5 in a windy, rain-filled day at Jess Dow Field. The Owls dropped to an overall record of 7-4 and an NE10 record of 2-3 while the Chargers improved to an overall record of 5-3 and an NE10 record of 3-1.

Kirsten McIntire and Allie Palmer led the team with two goals and two points. Anna Meserve added a goal and a point for Southern. Amelia Mansfield, Morgan Reilly and Savannah Feinberg each had an assist and a point. Sarah Robbins, Amelia Mansfield and Caelan Connors all had a team-best of two ground balls. Savannah Feinberg had a team-best of three draw controls for the Owls. 

The Chargers started the scoring off with a goal but Southern responded back with a goal of their own by Anna Meserve with eight minutes left in the first quarter. However, New Haven would go on to score four more goals, to extend the lead heading into the second quarter. 

In the second quarter, the Chargers would score four more goals as Kirsten McIntire would score her first goal of the day with an assist by Morgan Reilly. Heading into halftime, New Haven led 9-2 over Southern Connecticut. 

In the third quarter, New Haven opened with a goal as Allie Palmer answered back with an unassisted goal with five minutes left. In the fourth quarter, as rain continued to pour down, Palmer found the back of the net again with an assist by Savannah Feinberg. With nine minutes left, hopes of a comeback were bright as Kirsten McIntire scored her second goal of the day with an assist from Mansfield but the Chargers would score two more goals to end the game. 

The Owls will return to action on Saturday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m. in Manchester, N.H. against Southern New Hampshire University in an NE10 matchup. Southern Connecticut will return to Jess Dow Field on Wednesday, April 10 at 4:00 p.m. for an NE10 matchup against American International College in New Haven, Connecticut.
