HOOKSETT, N.H. - Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse fell to Southern New Hampshire University, 23-12, in an NE10 matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Owls dropped to an overall record of 7-5 and an NE10 record of 2-4 while the Penmen improved to an overall record of 4-5 and an NE10 record of 1-3.
Kirsten McIntire, who leads the NE10 in goals, scored a team-best of six goals, had seven points and an assist for the Owls. Six different players:
Morgan Reilly,
Savannah Feinberg,
Allie Palmer,
Allie Welder,
Anna Meserve and
Abigail Nolan scored a goal and had a point.
Morgan Reilly led the team with three assists and had four points.
Ailis Wargin,
Sarah Robbins and
Jordan Fisher had a team-best of three ground balls. Wargin and
Hannah Holmes led the team in caused turnovers with two.
Savannah Feinberg led with three draw controls for Southern Connecticut.
Kirsten McIntire started the scoring for the Owls with back-to-back goals in the first quarter. Then, the Penmen scored their first three goals of the game.
Allie Palmer scored her first goal of the game, tying up the score, 3-3. However, Southern New Hampshire wasn't going away as they scored three goals again as
Anna Meserve scored a goal, with an assist by McIntire to close out the first quarter, 6-4, in favor of the Penmen.
In the second quarter, McIntire would score her third and fourth goal for the Owls. Southern New Hampshire continued to score quickly as they put nine goals in the back of the net.
Allie Welder scored right before the break, which was the Owls' seventh goal of the day.
In the third quarter, Southern Connecticut looked to make a comeback as McIntire scored again, with another assist from Reilly. Just minutes later,
Savannah Feinberg found the back of the net for her first goal of the game. McIntire scored her sixth and final goal of the day while right before the end of the quarter, Reilly scored her first of the game. The Owls trailed the Penmen, 19-11, heading into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, Southern New Hampshire scored four more goals to extend their lead.
Abigail Nolan scored the last goal of the game for the Owls, unassisted.
The Owls will return to action on Wednesday, April 10 at 4:00 p.m. against American International College in an NE10 matchup at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Connecticut.
