Caiola runs fastest 400 Meter Dash in DII, Moran Sets School Record in 3000 at the John Thomas Terrier Classic

Boston, Mass. - Southern Connecticut Women's Track Junior Hannah Caiola ran the top 400 meter dash time in all of Division II this season, and Kimberly Moran set the SCSU Program Record in the 3000m at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University. The mark ranks 12th all-time in Division II and 17th across all divisions. 

Caiola, a junior from Glastonbury, Conn., finished with a time of 53.40 in the 400M dash, placing third in the event. The time is a new personal-best for Caiola, who has already set the SCSU record in the 500m (2nd best all-time DII), and broke the Division II record in the 300m this season.

Moran was the Owls' top finisher in the 3000m, coming in 95th at 9:58.79. That time broke the previous record of 10:04.14, set last season by Courtney Henchcliffe. The mark was the 50th best in all of Division II this season. 

The Owls 4x400 relay team was also a top performer. The foursome of Avery Winters, Kisha Francois, Ella Maclean, and Caiola ran a 3:43.33, good for the fifth place. Only Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and BYU placed higher, making Southern the top DII school. The time was tied for the third best in all of DII this season. 

Kimberly Moran broke the Southern Connecticut program record in the 3000m with a time of 9:58.79. She becomes the top time in the event passing Laura Brustolon's time of 1:04.44 which was set in 2009. This time ranks 50th in NCAA Division II. Moran finished 95th in the event. Megan Whitnell, Emilie Noreika and P.J. Dauphinais placed in 154th, 156th, and 161st respectively, running times of 10:39.93, 10:42.13, and 10:53.93. 

Dardielle Exantus and Joelle Budz both competed in the 60m dash open for the Owls. Exantus placed 18th with a time of 8.17, and Budz landed in 21st with a time of 8.19, a personal best. 

Avery Winters, coming off a NE10 Track Athlete of the Week selection, competed in the 400m dash invitational, placing 26th with a time of 57.51. 

Four Owls ran the 800m, with Julia Mansfield the top finisher. She placed 85th with a time of 2:22.47, followed by Leticia DoNascimento, who crossed at 2:24.55 in 102nd. Erin Sola landed in 114th at 2:26.15, and Abigail Bajorek placed 118th with a time of 2:26.51. 

Ella Maclean placed 17th in the 200m dash invitational, running 25.10. 

In the 200m dash open, Megan Swan led the Owls in 32nd with a time of 26.01, followed by Exantus at 26.09 in 39th. Budz placed 53rd at 26.45.

Southern's second 4x400 relay of Brianna Cole, Swan, Budz, and DoNascimento placed 27th with a time of 4:06.17.  

In the 3000, Megan Whitnell, Emilie Noreika and P.J. Dauphinais placed in 154th, 156th, and 161st respectively, running times of 10:39.93, 10:42.13, and 10:53.93. 

The Owls compete again tomorrow, February 1st at UCONN for the Greg Roy-al Rumble.
