SCSU Women's Cross Country Brings Home Two NE10 Postseason Awards

Southern Connecticut women's cross country won two of the three major Northeast 10 Conference awards, as announced by the conference on November 13th. Courtney Henchcliffe was named the 2025 Runner of the Year, and Head Coach Melissa Stoll Funaro was named the Coach of the Year.

Henchcliffe adds on to a dominant 2025 season with her first Runner of the Year nod. The senior won the NE10 Runner of the Week award every week she competed during the regular season, then went on to win the NE10 Individual Championship and the NCAA Division II East Region Individual Championship, becoming the first Owl in program history to do so. She helped lead the Owls to their second conference and regional championships in program history, also sending them to the National Championships for the third straight season. She is the second Owl to win the award, joining 2009 Individual Champion Laura Brustolon.

Stoll Funaro, who is in her 14th season with the Owls, took home her first Cross Country Coach of the Year honor after winning the award several times for both indoor and outdoor track. It also marks the first time in program history Southern has received the award.

The Owls will look to close out the season on a high note when they compete at the 2025 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Champioships in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 22nd.
