SCSU Men's Indoor Track & Field Sits in Second after Day 1 of 2025 NE10 Indoor T&F Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - Southern Connecticut Men's Indoor Track & Field sits in second place after Day 1 of the 2025 Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. They scored 48 points, just shy of New Haven's conference-leading 57. 

TRACK
5000m

First-year Owl John Glidden earned SCSU's first track medal in the 5000m. The reigning NE10 Cross Country Rookie of the Year placed third with a personal-best time of 15:41.92. In the same event, Matt Speight also scored, placing eighth with a time of 16:04.73. 

4000m Distance Medley Relay
Southern's 4000m DMR team of Evan McNeice, Ty Phelan, Frankie Porrini, and Joseph Lamburn placed second with a time of 10:30.73. 

60m Hurdles Preliminary
Osaretin Osagie and Joe Nahm both qualified for the finals in the 60m Hurdles. Osagie ran a time of 8.26, good for second in the prelims. Nahm ranked seventh with a time of 8.69. 

60m Dash Preliminary
Nolan Freeman and Marquis Ward both qualified for tomorrow's finals in the 60m Dash, with Freeman ranking third with a time of 6.97 and Ward in seventh with a personal-best time of 7.02. Jalil Peña placed 16th with a time of 7.12

400m Dash Preliminary
Sam Sandler led the pack in the 400m Dash, and was one of five Owls to qualify for the finals. He ran a time of 49.03 to rank first, followed by Osaretin Osagie in fourth with a time of 49.69. Quinn Favorite's time of 49.92 was fifth-best, and Matthew Kilmer placed sixth at 49.98. Max Musial was the final Owl to qualify, nabbing the eighth and final spot with a time of 50.08. 

In the same event, James Grace finished in 13th with a time of 51.02. Philip DePoutot recorded a personal-best time of 51.61, good for 18th. 

800m Run Preliminary
Owen Gagne was the lone Owl to qualify for the finals in the 800m run preliminaries, running a time of 1:59.11 to grab the final spot. Mekkhi Adkins just missed out in 10th place with a time of 1:59.70. Noble Parker finished in 17th with a time of 2:02.51. 

200m Dash Preliminary
Nolan Freeman, Sam Sandler, and Marquis Ward all qualified for tomorrow's 200m Dash final with new personal best times. Freeman's time of 21.60 was just shot of conference-leader Stephen Harris' 21.57, and beat the NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying mark. Sandler finished in fourth with a time of 21.80, and Ward was right behind in fifth at 21.97.

Jalil Peña finished in 15th with a personal-best time of 22.54. Lucas Leon finished in 29th at 23.97 and Raysean Emrie placed 30th at 24.36, both personal bests. 

FIELD
Pole Vault
First-year Owl Mateo Viviano continued his dominant debut season with a first place finish in the Pole Vault, clearing 4.40m (14' 5.25"). Dylan Torok won the bronze medal, clearing 4.25m (13' 11.25"). Peyton Adams was right behind in fourth with a mark of 4.10m (13' 5.25"). 

Weight Throw
Jordan Ribeiro scored for the Owls with a sixth place finish in the Weight Throw. He threw 15.14m (49' 8.25"), a new personal-best. Leo Jolly finished in 11th, throwing 12.20m (43' 3.75"). 

Long Jump
Riley Bjornberg led the Owls in the Long Jump, placing fourth with a mark of 6.62m (21' 8.75"). Holden Speed followed in fifth, jumping 6.60m (21' 8"), a personal best mark. Lawrence Hicks placed 14th, jumping 6.05m (19' 10.25"). 

Heptathlon
Dylan Torok finished the day in second in the Heptathlon, gathering 2742 points. He placed fourth in the 60m Dash with a time of 7.34, and placed second in the Long Jump with a mark of 6.40m (21' 0"). He also placed second in the Shot Put, throwing 11.70m (38' 4.75"). Torok took home third in the High Jump, clearing 1.90m (6' 2.75").
