BACK-TO-BACK: SCSU Women’s Indoor Track & Field Wins Second Straight NE10 Championship

BOSTON, Mass - Southern Connecticut Women's Indoor Track and Field team won their second straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship at the TRACK at New Balance. It is their fifth conference championship overall. The team scored 229 points, 129.5 points ahead of second place. 

Belle Smith was named the NE10 Women's Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning the Shot Put and the Weight Throw. 

TRACK
60m Hurdles
Patrice Mansfield placed second in the 60m Hurdles final with a time of 8.72. That is a hundredth of a second short of Mansfield's personal best, and meets the NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying mark. 

60m Dash
Ella Maclean won the 60m Dash for the third straight year. She ran a time of 7.70. Dardielle Exantus placed fourth with a personal best time of 7.92, and Mackenzie Glenn placed eighth at 8.08. 

Mile Run
Erin Sola led the Owls in the Mile, placing fourth with a personal best time of 5:18.07. Abigail Bajorek was next in sixth at 5:20.62, also a personal best, and Briana Grecco finished in eighth at 5:30.35. 

400m Dash
Hannah Caiola won her first gold medal of the day in the 400m Dash, placing first with a time of 57.16, which meets the DII Provisional Qualifying Mark. Avery Winters placed second, running a time of 57.16. 

800m Run
Leticia DoNascimento grabbed the bronze in the 800m with a personal best time of 2:18.58. Julia Mansfield was right behind in fourth, finishing in 2:20.71. 

3000m Run
The Owls swept the podium in the 3000m. Kimberly Moran finished first with a time of 10:26.00, and Emilie Noreika placed second at 10:48.45. Megan Whitnell nabbed the final medal in third at 10:49.77. PJ Dauphinais finished in sixth despite losing a spike about halfway through the race, recording a time of 10:55.02. Michaela Hogan placed 21st with a time of 13:10.25. 

200m Dash
Southern also swept the podium in the 200m Dash. Hannah Caiola finished first with a DII Provisional Qualifying time of 24.42. Avery Winters followed in second at 24.91, a personal best, followed by Ella Maclean in third at 25.36. Megan Swan placed fifth, finishing at 25.58. 

4x800m Relay
The Owls 4x800m Relay team of Erin Sola, Abigail Bajorek, Leticia DoNascimento, and Julia Mansfield placed first, combining to run a time of 9:41.38. 

4x400m Relay
Southern's 4x400 Relay foursome of Cali Beebe, Lindsay Drozd, Joelle Budz, and Ginny Mullen placed fifth, running a time of 4:05.26. 

FIELD
Shot Put
Belle Smith swept the throwing events with a first place finish in the Shot Put. She threw 13.03m (42' 9"), and was the only thrower to break 13 meters. Kayla Johnson placed fourth, throwing 11.56m (37' 11.25"). Darla Jagrosse rounded out the pack in 11th with a throw of 10.59m (34' 9"). 

Triple Jump
Uliana Pokutnia was Southern's top finisher in the Triple Jump, jumping 10.65m (34' 11.25") and placing fourth. Deja Fitzpatrick-Bell followed in eighth with a mark of 10.36m (34' 0"), and Delaney Speed jumped 10.03m (32' 11"), good for 10th. 

High Jump
Johniece Jones placed ninth in the High Jump, clearing 1.45m (4' 9").
