SCSU Women's Lacrosse Opens 2025 Season With 22-3 Win Against Holy Family

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse defeated Holy Family, 22-3, in the Owls' 2025 season and home opener at Jess Dow Field. With the win, Southern opens its 2025 campaign at 1-0 while Holy Family dropped to 0-1.

Allie Welder, Jordan Fisher and Anna Meserve all scored three goals while Macy Vail and Nicolette Spotlow had two goals and an assist. Allie Palmer scored twice. In goal Caelen Connors had three saves while Kiley Nolan made six saves in the second half in her collegiate debut.

Fisher put the Owls on the board for the first goal of the game – and season – with just under 12 minutes to play in the first quarter, with Akron transfer Macy Vail setting up for the assist and her first points as an Owl. Anna Meserve scored less than a minute later before Holy Family scored to get on the board.

Southern then rattled off seven unanswered goals over the remainder of the period and three more to start the second to take a 12-1 lead. Vail scored twice in the first to go along with her assist in the first 15 minutes while Fisher and Merserve also added their second goals of the game. Allie Welder, Amelia Mansfield and Allie Palmer also scored for the Owls.

Three more Owls found their way onto the scoresheet to start the second quarter as Nicolette Spotlow, Bailey McDermott and Maddox Burton all converted. After Holy Family broke up the Owls' scoring barrage, Palmer and Welder both scored again to send the Owls to the break with a 14-2 lead.

Welder scored again to open the second half with 12:08 left before Abigail Nolan scored to give Southern a 16-2 lead. With the clock running, Taryn Ugrin scored before Holy Family converted its third goal of the game. Meserve followed with her third goal of the game to give Southern an 18-3 lead in the closing seconds of the third. In the fourth, Fisher and Spotlow both scored again, while Spotlow added an assist. Rebecca Sibley and Sofia Zumbrunn both scored their first career goals.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Mar. 1 when it hosts Caldwell at 1 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. The Owls will then host Molloy on Sunday, Mar. 2 at 12 p.m.
