SCSU Women's Lacrosse Wins A Battle Against Molloy, 12-11

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse defeated Molloy, 12-11, in a non-conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls improved to 2-0 on the young season while Molloy dropped to 0-5 on the year.

Jordan Fisher led the Owls with four goals while Allie Palmer scored three times and added an assist. Macy Vail had two goals and an assist in the win while Allie Welder, Taryn Ugrin and Bailey McDermott also scored for Southern. Caelen Connors had 12 saves in net for the Owls.

Southern opened the game with five unanswered goals in the game's first seven minutes, with Fisher scoring three times. Fisher scored on back-to-back attempts before Palmer set up Vail to give Southern a 3-0 lead. Fisher scored on a pass from Anna Meserve before McDermott scored seconds later. Molloy cut into the Owls lead with two goals before the end of the first quarter, and then again to start the second.

Vail scored her five minutes into the second quarter to halt the Molloy attack and make it 6-3, but Molloy came back again and scored twice to pull within a goal, 6-5. Taryn Ugrin scored with 37 seconds left in the first half to send the Owls to the break with a two-goal lead, 7-5.

Molloy refused to back down as the Owls' early lead turned into a back-and-forth battle. The Lions scored twice to tie it at 7-7 less than three minutes into the half. From there, Palmer took over as she scored three-straight goals for the Owls to kick-off a 5-0 run. Welder scored before the end of the third to give Southern a 11-7 lead with two minutes to go in the quarter. Fisher scored midway through the fourth on a pass in front of the net from Vail to give Southern a 12-7 lead. Molloy scored the final four goals of the game, but it was two clears broken up by the Owls at midfield in the closing minutes to gave the Owls the win.

Southern is back in action on Wednesday, March 5 when it travels to Lakewood, N.J. to take on Georgian Court at 4 p.m.
