Box Score 2 NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut softball team split in a non-conference doubleheader against Bridgeport. The Owls lost the first game, 8-0 in six innings and won the second game, 5-4 in eight innings.
Rachel Miller had the Owls lone hit Game 1. First-year Cassidy Sullivan went 3-for-4 in Game 2 with two RBIs, and had the walk-off fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth.
In Game 1, the Owls had the opportunity to score first when Izzy Ingersoll walked in the bottom of the first inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Karley Austin. Nicole Spinelli then moved her over before the next batter was retired. Bridgeport got on the board in the third inning, but it wasn't until the fifth when the started packing on the runs with a five-run inning.
In Game 2, seven different Owls had hits including a timely pinch-hit from Lorelei Stancavage. Bridgeport struck first but the Owls matched that run when Olivia Young singled to score Rachel Miller. The team scored another run next inning when Ingersoll tripled to bring in Marissa Correra.
Bridgeport tied the game in the third before leading 4 to 2 in the fifth. The Owls equalized in the sixth when Miller led off with a single. Olivia Young got on with a walk and Stancavage loaded the bases with a line drive up the middle. Sullivan came up big with a single to score DeCarro, who pinch-ran for Miller, and Young.
In the eighth, Young was put on second base for international tiebreaker. Kayla Wakely moved her over to third with a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt. Cestari reached on a fielder's choice before Sullivan brought in the winning run.
The Owls travel to Florida for an eight-game stint starting with a doubleheader against Molloy.
