SAINT LEO, Fla. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse fell to #6, Saint Leo University, 14-8 in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night. The Owls dropped to an overall record of 4-2 while the Lions improved to an overall record of 9-1. Senior
Amelia Mansfield won her 100
th career draw control, as she is the ninth player in program history to record 100 plus draw controls.
Allie Welder had a team-best of two goals and two points, while six Owls scored a goal:
Macy Vail,
Jordan Fisher,
Anna Meserve,
Taryn Ugrin,
Bailey McDermott and
Allie Palmer.
Amelia Mansfield led the team with an assist and a team-best of four draw controls. Mansfield surpassed the 100th draw control mark, as she has a total of 102 draws, so far in her career.

Allie Welder each had two draws.
Caelan Connors made nine saves in goal and recorded a team-best of three ground balls. Meserve led the Owls with two caused turnovers and picked up two ground balls against the Lions.
In the first quarter, it was a battle between both teams from the first draw. With six minutes left,
Allie Palmer scored the first goal of the day for the Owls from the free position to put the Owls up, 1-0. Seconds later, the Lions won the draw and scored their first goal of the game, to tie the score up at 1-1.
In the second quarter,
Macy Vail scored her first goal of the game, to put the Owls up 2-1, within just a minute of play. Once again, a minute later, Saint Leo recorded their second goal, to even the score at 2-2. The Lions scored back-to-back goals, to take a 4-2 lead with 10 minutes left in the quarter.
Anna Meserve threw a shot into the back of the net, as she scored the Owls' third goal of the day, bringing the score to 4-3. Saint Leo would record four unanswered goals going into halftime with a score of 8-3 over Southern.
The Lions recorded their ninth goal early in the third quarter.
Allie Welder scored her first goal from the free position, to start the comeback for the Owls. Minutes later, Saint Leo recorded their 10
th goal, with a lead of 10-4 with seven minutes left in the half. The Lions didn't stop their momentum as they scored two more goals. Nonetheless,
Taryn Ugrin scored her first goal of the game, to bring the score to 12-5. After that,
Amelia Mansfield won the draw, her second of the game, to reach 100 draw controls in her career.
In the fourth quarter, it was Southern who had momentum on their side as Welder recorded her second goal, cutting the Lions' lead in half. Mansfield won her third draw and the 101
st of her career, then,
Bailey McDermott would score her first goal of the game, with the score being 12-7, with 13 minutes left to play. Saint Leo recorded their 13
th goal of the day from the free position. Minutes later, the Lions would go on to record their 14
th goal, bringing the score to 14-7. With five minutes left,
Jordan Fisher scored her first goal of the game, with an assist by Mansfield, as the score was set to 14-8, in favor of the Lions. No goals would be scored in the last four minutes as Saint Leo got the 14-8 victory over Southern Connecticut.
Southern will play non-conference opponent, Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19 in their final game in Florida.
