SCSU Women's Lacrosse Breaks Program Record With 27-4 Win Against Caldwell

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse broke the program record for goals in a game with a 27-4 win against Caldwell. With the win, the Owls improved to 6-3 overall while Caldwell dropped to 0-7 for the year.

Macy Vail led the Owls with four goals and five assists for nine points while Maddox Burton had a goal and four assists for five points. Abigail Nolan had four goals while Sofia Zumbrunn, Anna Meserve and Taryn Ugrin all had two goals and two assists. Bailey McDermott also had a hat trick with three goals and Amelia Mansfield, Rebecca Sibley and Hannah Hathway had two goals each. Allie Welder and Jordan Fisher had a goal and an assist each while Allie Palmer also scored a goal for Southern.

Southern broke its previous record of 24 which it scored against Warner (NAIA) on March 19. Vails nine points and five assists were also a season-best for the Owls.



Southern held an 11-2 advantage after the first quarter, which featured six unanswered goasl to start the game including a pair of goals by Vail as well as two goals from McDermott, which Burton setting up both. Southern closed the first frame with a 5-1 advantage.

In the second quarter, Sibley and Zumbrunn each scored twice to lead a 7-1 quarter as the Owls took an 18-3 lead into halftime. The third quarter was the closest of the game as the Owls only scored four goals. In the fourth, Nolan scored twice in the first three minutes to lead the Owls, who outscored the Cougars, 5-1, down the stretch to hold on for the 27-4 win.

Southern is back in action on Wednesday, Apr. 2 when it hosts Southern New Hampshire at 4 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. The Owls will host Senior Day on Saturday, Apr. 5 prior to the start of its 1 p.m. NE10 matchup against Franklin Pierce.
