SCSU Men's Track & Field Wins 8 Events at UConn and Yale

STORRS, Conn. / NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut Men's Outdoor Track & Field saw eight athletes win their respective events, competing at Day 2 of the UConn Northeast Challenge and Yale's Mark Young Invitational. Cameron Belton, Jonathan Volpe, John Glidden, Mateo Viviano, Drew Schwartz, Lawrence Hicks, Joe Nahm, and Mekkhi Adkins all took home wins. 

UCONN NORTHEAST CHALLENGE

FIELD
Cameron Belton won the Shot Put, throwing 17.71m (58-1.25). That is his best throw of the outdoor season and ranks 15th nationally. Natanael Barbosa Torres finished third with a mark of 17.08m (56-0.5), also a season best and the 25th best in Division II. 

Holden Speed placed fifth in the Triple Jump, jumping 14.01m (45-11.75). 

TRACK
Jonathan Volpe won the 1500m, running a personal best time of 3:47.66. That is the top time in the Northeast-10 and meets the DII Provisional Mark. He ranks 39th nationally. 

John Glidden won the 5000m with a time of 15:31.33. Joseph Lamburn was close behind in third at 15:38.38. 

Osaretin Osagie placed second in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 14.34. That time is the best in the conference, and meets the DII Provisional Standard. He now ranks 36th nationally. He also placed third in the 400m Hurdles, crossing the finish line at 53.79, the top time in the conference. 

Max Musial, Quinn Favorite, and Matt Kilmer all set PRs in the 400m. Musial placed 12th at 48.72 (second in the NE10), Favorite finished 13th at 49.05 (third in the NE10), and Kilmer came in 17th with a time of 49.42. 

Nolan Freeman finished fourth in the 100m Dash, crossing the line at 10.71. Marquis Ward set a personal best with a time of 10.81, good for 10th place and fourth in the conference. Noah Conrod finished in 26th at 11.16. 

Freeman also finished fourth in the 200m Dash with a time of 21.42, which is the top time in the NE10. Ward PR'd again in the same event, placing 17th with a time of 21.88, fourth best in the NE10. Conrod finished 20th at 22.49. 

Evan McNeice landed in 12th in the 800m, setting a PR with a time of 1:56.51. That time ranks fourth in the conference.

The Owls' 4x100m Relay team of Musial, Conrod, Ward, and Freeman placed third with a season-best time of 40.72. That is the top time in the NE10, and ranks 39th in DII, meeting the provisional standard. 

The 4x400m Relay team of Musial, Favorite, Osagie, and Kilmer came in second at 3:13.68, the best time in the NE10. 

YALE MARK YOUNG INVITATIONAL

FIELD
Mateo Viviano won the Pole Vault, clearing 4.20m (13-9.25). Peyton Adams placed third at 3.90m (12-9.5), fourth best in the NE10. 

Drew Schwartz took home first in the Javelin Throw, throwing 50.91m (167-0). Matthew Pagan finished third at 47.37m (155-5), and Michael von Ehr finished fourth at 45.53m (149-4). 

Leo Jolly finished third in the Shot Put, throwing 14.53m (47-8). Jordan Ribeiro placed fifth at 13.52m (44-4.5), and Christopher Bon Tempo placed seventh at 13.27m (43-6.5). 

Ribeiro placed second in the Discus Throw, throwing 41.62m (136-6). 

Ribeiro also led the Owls in the Hammer Throw, placing sixth with a throw of 45.58m (149-6). Jolly and Bon Tempo finished seventh and eighth, throwing 44.46m (145-10) and 43.62m (143-1) respectively. 

Lawrence Hicks won the High Jump, clearing 2.01m (6-7). That is a new PR and ranks first in the conference. 

Hicks finished second in the Long Jump, reaching 6.89m (22-7.25). JC Joyner placed fifth at 6.25m (20-6.25). 

Joyner also placed fifth in the Triple Jump with a mark of 12.82m (42-0.75)

TRACK
Joe Nahm won the 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.58. 

Mekkhi Adkins won the 400m Hurdles with a time of 56.81, which ranks third in the NE10. 

Malachy Murray placed third in the 400m with a time of 50.52. Philip DePoutot was close behind in fifth at 51.49, and Ty Phelan finished seventh at 52.29. 

Lucas León placed 13th in the 100m Dash at 11.60. Raysean Emrie finished 16th with a time of 11.79. 

Dylan Horkey placed 13th in the 800m, with a time of 2:06.79. 

DePoutot finished in seventh in the 200m Dash, crossing the line at 22.71. León placed 11th at 23.28, and Nahm placed 12th at 23.36. Raysean Emrie rounded out the pack in 13th at 23.38. 

In the 5000m, Ryan Gagne placed 14th with a time of 17:21.40. 

The Owls' 4x400m relay team of Murray, DePoutot, Adkins, and León placed second with a time of 3:27.54. 

The Owls return home for the Jack Maloney/Jim Barber Invitational next weekend to celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, April 26th.
