Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse defeated American International 26-3, in the NE10 regular season finale on Wednesday night. The Owls improved to an overall record of 10-7 and an NE10 record of 4-6. The Yellowjackets finished with an overall record of 2-14 and an NE10 record of 0-10. Southern Connecticut won their 10
th game this season, which breaks the program record of most wins in a season, which was previously set in 2023 when the Owls recorded nine wins. Additionally,
Macy Vail tied the program-record of most points in a single-game, with 11 points.
Macy Vail led the Owls with a career-best of eight goals, which is the most goals scored by a player in the NE10 this season and tied for the second most goals scored in program history. Vail also had three assists, which totals 11 points, for the tie for most points recorded in a single game in program history and second most totaled in the NE10 this season. Additionally, Vail totaled the second most points in a single-season with 72 total points in program history,
Jordan Fisher scored four goals as
Bailey McDermott recorded three goals while
Amelia Mansfield,
Allie Welder and
Sofia Zumbrunn all scored two goals. Five Owls had a goal:
Rebecca Sibley,
Hannah Hathway,
Taryn Ugrin,
Allie Palmer and
Abigail Nolan.
Maddox Burton, just one day after breaking the single-game assists program record, had a team-best of five assists while Zumbrunn and Nolan totaled two assists. In goal,
Caelan Connors made three saves and
Kiley Nolan made a save against the Yellowjackets.
Amelia Mansfield and
Rebecca Sibley led the Owls with three ground ball pick-ups, as
Sabina Robson,
Allie Welder,
Taryn Ugrin and
Bailey McDermott picked up two ground balls. Welder and Fisher caused a team-best of two turnovers. Mansfield, Welder and Nolan all won a team-best of four draw controls.
In the first quarter, Southern Connecticut started off strong with back-to-back goals by
Macy Vail, both goals were assisted by
Maddox Burton, within the first three minutes of play. Then,
Jordan Fisher scored her first of the day, to put the Owls up, 3-0. American International responded with their first goal of the day; however,
Allie Palmer answered with her first goal of the game. Seconds later,
Allie Welder threw a shot into the back of the net for the Owls' fifth goal, with an assist by
Sofia Zumbrunn. After that,
Abigail Nolan recorded her first goal of the day.
Rebecca Sibley scored the seventh goal for Southern and seconds later,
Sofia Zumbrunn scored her first goal of the game, extending the Owls' lead to 8-1. Then,
Jordan Fisher recorded her second goal and two minutes later,
Bailey McDermott recorded her first goal of the day. Next,
Amelia Mansfield had back-to-back goals, with her second goal, assisted by
Jordan Fisher. Then,
Taryn Ugrin got on the scoresheet, with an assist by Vail, to finish out the first 15 minutes, with a 13-1 lead over American International.
In the second quarter, the Yellowjackets scored their second goal, within the first minute.
Hannah Hathway scored the Owls' first goal of the second quarter, bringing the lead to 14-2. Minutes later,
Allie Welder recorded her second goal, with an assist by Burton. Then, McDermott scored her second goal of the day. After that, Fisher scored her third of the game, with the fourth assist of the game by Burton. Finishing the first half,
Macy Vail scored her third goal, with an assist by
Allie Palmer, to extend their 18-2 lead over the Yellowjackets heading into halftime.
In the third quarter,
Bailey McDermott had her third goal of the day, with an assist from Vail. The Yellowjackets scored their third goal; however,
Macy Vail scored four straight goals, with two assists from
Abigail Nolan, and assists by
Maddox Burton and
Sofia Zumbrunn. The Owls headed into the fourth quarter, up 23-3.
In the fourth quarter,
Macy Vail scored her eighth goal of the game, with an assist from
Taryn Ugrin. Then,
Sofia Zumbrunn recorded her second goal of the day, with an assist from Vail. After that,
Jordan Fisher recorded her fourth goal, to bring the score to 26-3 as the Owls clinched their historic 10
th victory of the season.
For the first time in program history, the Owls will wait to see who they will face in the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament, which will begin on Saturday, April 26.
