SCSU Women's Lacrosse Will Face Adelphi in First NE10 Tournament Appearance

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse will face Adelphi in the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament on Saturday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m. in Garden City, New York. This is the first time in program history that Southern Connecticut has qualified for the NE10 Tournament. 

It will be the first postseason appearance for the Owls in the NE10 Tournament after coming up close in 2023. In 2023, the Owls lost to Assumption, 12-9, as the Greyhounds advanced to the postseason with the victory. Southern Connecticut finished the 2023 season with an overall record of 9-8 and an NE10 record of 4-8.

Admission for all rounds of the NE10 tournament will be $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and children. Current NE10 students with a valid ID, will be admitted for free of charge.

The seventh seed in the NE10 tournament, Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse, will face the second seed, Adelphi University, at 1:00 p.m. in the NE10 Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday, April 26 in Garden City, New York. 

The Owls will face the Panthers, a week after their first meeting this season at Jess Dow Field. Adelphi clinched the 19-11 victory over Southern. Macy Vail led the Owls with four goals, an assist and five points, as Allie Palmer scored two goals, had an assist and three points. Sammy Sleve had a team-best of two ground ball pick ups, while five Owls caused a turnover and Amelia Mansfield won a career-best of 10 draw controls. In goal, Caelan Connors made 10 saves against the Panthers. 

It was a great start for Southern Connecticut as they took an early 3-0 lead, with goals from Macy Vail, Jordan Fisher and Allie Palmer. However, Adelphi responded with four goals, as they took a 4-3 lead to end the first 15 minutes. In the second quarter, the Panthers put nine goals away as the Allie Palmer and Taryn Ugrin added goals for the Owls, with the score still in favor of Adelphi with a 13-5 advantage. In the third quarter, Vail scored two more goals; nonetheless, the Panthers responded with three goals of their own. In the fourth quarter, Allie Welder scored her first goal of the game, then Adelphi recorded three goals, in between goals from Abigail Nolan, Rebecca Sibley and Vail. Despite their comeback efforts, the Owls fell to the Panthers, 19-11. 

Since the loss to the Panthers last week, the Owls finished the regular season with wins against Saint Thomas Aquinas, 25-1 and against American International, 26-3. In addition, multiple records were broken by Southern Connecticut with the victories. With the win over the Yellowjackets, the Owls recorded their 10th win of the season, which is the most wins in a season, after previously setting the record in 2023 with nine wins. Also against American International, Macy Vail totaled 11 points, eight goals and three assists. Vail totaled the second-most single-season points in program history, with 72 points so far. In addition, she tied the program record for most points in a single-game in program history. Eight goals is the most goals scored by an individual in the NE10 this season and the second most goals scored in a game in program history. 

Against the Spartans, Maddox Burton broke the program single-game assist record with seven assists. She had seven assists, a goal and eight points in the 25-1 victory. Seven assists is the most assists recorded by a player in the NE10 this season. Burton has totaled the second-most assists in a single-season in program history, with 31 assists so far.
