TICKET PUNCHED: SCSU Women's Lacrosse Is Heading To The NCAA Tournament

For the first time in program history, Southern Connecticut State University earned an At-Large bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship tournament. The Owls earned the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 Mercy on Thursday, May 7 at 4 p.m. in Pleasantville, N.Y. with the winning team set to face No. 2 Pace on Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m.

The Owls' latest historical feat comes after they finished the season with a program record 12 wins during a 12-5 campaign and hosted a Northeast 10 Conference Championship Quarterfinal game for the first time in program history.

The Owls head into the NCAA tournament with the NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year Caelan Connors as well as eight All-NE10 standouts. Connors and Macy Vail were the first SCSU student-athletes to earn NE10 Women's Lacrosse First Team recognition. Anna Meserve and Abigail Nolan were named to the All-NE10 Second Team. Allie Welder and Breya Montague were named to the All-NE10 Third Team. Sofia Boucher and Mia Hartmann were named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team. In total, eight Owls were named to the All-NE10 teams, which is a program record for the most all-conference selections.

Southern and Mercy met early in the season with the Knights taking a 15-14 decision in New Haven on Wednesday, March 11. The Owls went on to win six-straight games and nine of their next 11 games. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds from each of the four regions will host first- and second-round competitions on Thursday, May 7, and Saturday, May 9. The winners of the eight second-round games will advance to the quarterfinal-round where the highest remaining seed in each region will host the competition on Saturday, May 16. The semifinals and final will be conducted Thursday, May 21 and Saturday, May 23. The championship will take place at Judson Stadium in Rochester, New York, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology and Visit Rochester.
