SCSU Women's Lacrosse Tops Franklin Pierce, 20-5, For Third-Straight Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. –  Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse won its third-straight game as it defeated Franklin Pierce, 20-5, in a Northeast-10 Conference game matchup in New Haven, Conn. With the win, the Owls improved to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the NE10 while Franklin Pierce dropped to 1-4 in the NE10 and 3-6 overall.

Jordan Fisher led the Owls with four goals and an assist while Anna Meserve scored five goals, matching the Owls' season high, and also had five draw controls. Allie Palmer also had a hat trick while Allie Welder scored twice and added five draw controls. Rebecca Sibley had a goal and an assist. Amelia Mansfield had a team-high six draw controls while also adding a goal.



Southern had a dominant first half as they ran off a 9-0 lead through the first quarter and settled for a 14-1 lead at the break. Fisher led the first half attack for the Owls with four goals and an assist while Anna Meserve also had a hat trick in the first 30. Allie Welder also scored twice for the Owls. Caelen Connors was also outstanding in net as she stopped 11 of Franklin Pierce's 12 shots on goal in the first half.

Seven different Owls scored Southern's first seven goals in a 9-0 run as Fisher scored less than a minute into play. Amelia Mansfield, Abigail Nolan, Welder, Allie Palmer, Taryn Ugrin and Anna Meserve all scored to open the game. Meserve scored again before Fisher scored the Owls' ninth goal of the first frame.

After Franklin Pierce got on the board to open the second quarter, Welder scored her second of the game before Meserve picked up her third on a free position shot. Rebecca Sibley got into the action before Fisher scored twice in the final 3:33 to send the Owls to the break with a 13-goal lead.

Coming out of the break, the Owls outscored Franklin Pierce, 5-1, in the third quarter to take a 19-2 lead. Meserve scored twice in the quarter while Palmer added her second of the game. Maddox Burton and Hannah Hathway also scored for the Owls.

In the fourth, Franklin Pierce scored back-to-back goals to cut Southern's lead to 19-4 before Palmer scored her third of the day.

Southern is back in action on Tuesday, April 8 when it hosts Pace for a NE10 matchup at 4 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
