SCSU Softball Splits Doubleheader Against SNHU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW HAVEN, CONN-- Southern Connecticut State University Softball split a pair of Northeast 10 conference games against Southern New Hampshire University at the Pelz Field on Saturday March 21. With the split results, the Owls move to an even 6-6 overall and 1-3 in NE10 play, while the Penmen move to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play. 

Across both games, Izzy Ingersoll had four hits and an RBI, extending her streak to 12- straight games of reaching base safely. Brianna Pearson had three hits and two RBI, while Cheyenne LaTouche had three hits and an RBI. 

Game 1: SNHU 6, SCSU 1

Ingersoll was 2-3 with an RBI, while LaTocuhe, Pearson and Young all had hits. Giselle DeLutri took the loss after tossing 6.2 innings striking out eight. In relief, Kate Nickerson got the final out for the Owls on a strikeout. 

Both the offenses for Southern Connecticut and Southern New Hampshire were quiet until the 5th inning, when the Penmen scored two, to take a 2-0. In the sixth, the Penmen added another two runs bringing the lead to 4-0. In the seventh, they would do the same scoring two more to bring a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. 

With the Owls backs against the wall, Young led of the inning with a double to right field. From there, she advanced on a wild pitch to third. Young then scored on a ground out by Ingersoll cutting the lead to 6-1 for the game's final run. 

Game 2: SCSU 9, SNHU 1

The Owls came out of the gates hot as Ingersoll tripled to start the game. LaTouche would then drive her in on a sacrifice fly to left field, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead. 

After a quiet second inning, the Owls offense would strike again in the third scoring three runs. After a walk by LaTouche and an error that allowed Pearson to reach base, Karley Austin singled driving in LaTouche to bring the Owls lead to 2-0. After a Gianna Iaquinto single, Young singled scoring Pearson and Austin bringing the Owls lead to 4-0. 

After another quiet half inning for the Penmen, the Owls would strike again in the fourth inning scoring their final five runs of game two. LaTouche got the Owls started by driving in Samantha LaFemina and bringing the Owls lead to 5-0. Pearson, the following batter, doubled scoring LaTouche and Ingersoll bringing the Owls lead up to 7-0. Austin would then reach on an error that scored Pearson giving the Owls an 8-0 lead. For their final run of the game, Iaquinto singled driving in Austin giving the Owls a 9-0 lead. 

After giving up one run in the top of the fifth inning, the Owls would take game two 9-1.
