WINDSOR, Conn. - Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse defeated Felician, 21-3, in a non-conference matchup at the Day Hill Dome in Windsor, Connecticut. The Falcons dropped to an overall record of 0-2 while the Owls improved to an overall record of 2-0. 13 different Owls scored a goal, while six Owls scored two or more goals in the Wednesday game.
Rebecca Sibley and
Sofia Boucher scored a team-best of three goals and had three points. Four players scored two goals:
Maddox Burton,
Macy Vail,
Abigail Nolan and
Allie Welder. Seven Owls scored a goal against the Falcons:
Hannah Hathway,
Anna Meserve,
Breya Montague,
Mia Hartmann,
Anna Corcoran,
Taryn Ugrin and
Alyssa Leonardi. In goal,
Caelan Connors got her second win of the season with four saves.
Maddox Burton totaled a team-best of seven points, while Vail recorded four points, and five different players had three points. Burton dished five assists, as Vail, Hathway and Meserve had two assists.
Sabina Robson and Sibley had a team-best of three ground balls. Five Owls: Sibley, Hathway, Hartmann, Meserve and Welder had a team-best of two caused turnovers.
Breya Montague and
Alyssa Leonardi had a team-best of three draws against the Falcons.
In the first quarter, the Owls' offense started off strong and never let up as they scored five goals in the first five minutes of play. Montague and Hathway added two more goals for Southern before the quarter ended with a score of 7-0.
In the second quarter,
Maddox Burton and
Rebecca Sibley continued the scoring for Southern. With six minutes left to play, Boucher scored two goals and
Abigail Nolan scored another goal, within two minutes. Felician scored their first goal of the day, with a second left on the clock, as the Owls went into halftime with a 12-1 lead.
In the third quarter,
Allie Welder fired a goal into the net for her first of the day. Then, Boucher and Vail added two more goals before
Anna Corcoran scored her first goal of her career, before the quarter ended as the Owls went up, 16-1.
In the fourth quarter, Sibley started the fourth with back-to-back goals before Burton added another goal to the Owls' total. Felician scored their second goal of the game then
Taryn Ugrin fired a goal into the net for the 20th goal of the game for Southern Connecticut.
Alyssa Leonardi scored her first career goal and the last Owls' goal of the day. The Falcons scored their third goal of the day before the clock ran out as Southern won their second game of the season, 21-3.
The Owls will be back in action on Saturday, March 7 for a 1:00 pm NE10 matchup against Saint Michael's at Jess Dow Field.
