SCSU Women's Lacrosse Downs St. Michael's., 16-10

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse defeated St. Michael's, 16-10, in the Owls' first home game of the season. With the win, the Owls improved to 3-0 overall and open their Northeast-10 Conference schedule at 1-0 while the Purple Knights drop to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Abigail Nolan scored five goals and added three assists for eight points. Nolan's goal and point marks were the most in a single game in the NE10 in 2026. Macy Vail had four goals and two assists while Anna Meserve totaled two goals and an assist with two draw controls. Rebecca Sibley, Allie Welder, Breya Montague, Taryn Ugrin and Bailey McDermott added goals for Southern while Maddox Burton also had an assist. Defensively, Sammy Sleve and McKenzie Schindler had two caused turnovers each while Sleve added two ground balls. In goal, Caelan Connors had 10 saves on the afternoon.

In the first quarter, Allie Welder got the score going for the Owls, within the first two minutes of play. However, Saint Michael's responded with their first goal of the game, minutes later. This back-and-forth pace would continue for the rest of the quarter. Bailey McDermott scored her first goal of the day; but, shortly after, the Purple Knights scored again. With a 1:50 to go, Abigail Nolan threw a goal into the back of the net to put the Owls up, 3-2.

The game slanted in favor of the Owls in the second quarter as they doubled-up Saint Michael's, 6-3, to take a 9-5 lead into halftime. After St. Michael's tied the game in the first minute, Montague and Vail scored to give the Owls a two-goal lead. St. Michael's answered to make it 5-4, before Southern rattled off four-unanswered goals to take a 9-4 lead with Nolan scoring twice. St. Michael's added a goal with 27 seconds left in the half to cut Southern's lead to four goals.

The third period featured goals from Meserve and Sibley, with a Purple Knights sandwiched between. The Owls and Knights traded goals in the fourth as the Owls took a 13-8 lead. After St. Michael's scored to pull within three, 13-10, Vail scored twice with Nolan adding another in the final five minutes to seal the win for the Owls.

Southern is back in action on Wednesday, March 11 when it hosts Mercy at 4 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
