NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Courtney Silva (Burnsville, Minn.) of the women's swimming and diving team and sophomore Christian Berg (Groton, Conn.) of the men's swimming and diving team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Silva claimed first place in two individual events and one relay in a victory over The College of New Jersey on Saturday. It was the Owls' first win over TCNJ since 2008. Silva won both the 100 breaststroke (1:11.62) and 200 breaststroke (2:34.23) and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay. She also placed second in the 100 butterfly.

Berg captured a pair of first-place marks in the 100 and 200 backstroke in the meet against TCNJ. He won the 100 backstroke in 52.05 and the 200 backstroke in 1:51.12. Berg also finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:01.14) and swam a leg of the 200 medley relay that placed second.

The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
