NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Abby Hurlbert (Thomaston, Conn.) of the women’s basketball team and sophomore Michael Agyeman (Manchester, Conn.) of the men’s basketball team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Hurlbert powered the Owls to a 2-0 week with averages of 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game. She also connected on 20-of-35 shots from the field (57.1) and 7-of-15 three-pointers. Hurlbert scored a career-high 30 points to help the Owls’ rally for a win over Assumption to start the week, and followed that up with a team-high 20 points – and the game-winning buzzer-beater – in a triumph over St. Michael’s.
Agyeman claimed first place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.88 meters at the Dr. Sander Invitational. His mark was a NCAA provisional qualifying figure. Agyeman topped numerous Division I and Division II performers with his second-best leap of the season.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program.
