Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 18 nationally ranked Bentley University women's lacrosse team scored five consecutive goals late in the second half to turn an 8-6 deficit into an eventual 11-9 victory over Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday evening.
The Owls are now 3-7 and 1-5 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Bentley improved to 5-5 and 3-3.
Nicole Healey (Milford, Conn.) registered a hat trick for the Owls while classmate
Carolynn Keal (Southington, Conn.) added a goal and two assists.
Lauren Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Jennifer McCarthy (Norwalk, Conn.) each scored twice for the Owls.
The game was one in which SCSU was either tied or leading for the bulk of the action. Bentley struck first just under six minutes into play, but the Owls netted consecutive goals from Anderson and McCarthy to take a 2-1 lead.
The teams alternated the next four goals with Healey and
Sarah Ciccia (Stratford, Conn.) netting the Southern markers to post a 4-3 lead, the score at the half.
Healey's second of the day gave the hosts a 5-3 cushion just 41 seconds into the second half. Bentley scored the next two goals to force a 5-5 tie. Keal answered with a goal to put the Owls back in front at 6-5 before the Falcons evened the score again at 6-6.
Anderson and McCarthy found the back of the net just 21 seconds apart to restore the two-goal advantage for the Owls. However, Bentley registered the next five goals before Healey's late goal made it an 11-9 final.
The Owls are back in action on Thursday for a game at Stonehill.
