SCSU Men's Indoor T&F Sees 11 Personal Bests and Season Bests at Greg Roy-al Rumble


Storrs, Conn. - Southern Connecticut Men's Indoor Track and Field recorded seven personal bests and four season bests at the Greg Roy-al Rumble, hosted by UConn. Cameron Belton, Lawrence Hicks, and Ryan Gagne all finished first in their respective events. 

TRACK
Lucas Leon ran a 7.62 in the 60m dash, good for 21st place. 

In the 60m Hurdles, Freshman Joe Nahm ran 8.64 in the preliminary round, then 8.66 in the finals to finish in eighth.

Jalil Pena led a pack of four freshmen in the 300m, finishing in second at 36.83. Philip DePoutot was close behind at 37.70 in third. Lucas Leon and Raysean Emrie both PR'd, placing sixth and seventh with times of 39.04 and 39.15. 

The Owls took the podium in the 3000m, with Ryan Gagne finishing in first at 9:11.02, a personal best. Sean Barkasy came next at 9:11.51, and Dominic Tartarelli finished in third with a personal-best 9:15.41. 

The Owls' 4x400 team of DePoutot,Emrie, Pena, and Leon placed second with a season-best time of 3:40.53. 

FIELD
Lawrence Hicks took home first in the High Jump for the second time this year, jumping 1.95m (6-04.75), a new PR. Dylan Torok placed ninth, jumping 1.80m (5-10.75). 

Hicks also was the top finisher in the Long Jump, placing sixth at 6.91m (22-08.00). Riley Bjornberg placed eighth, leaping 6.58 (21-07.25), and Dwayne Green PR'd with a jump of 6.51m (21-04.25), placing ninth. 

Holden Speed had a season-best jump of 13.90m, which ranks in the top 100 in all of DII. He finished in fifth, followed by JC Joyner in seventh, who PR'd at 13.55m (44-05.50). Dwayne Greene followed in eighth, jumping 12.15m (39-10.50). 

Mateo Viviano was the Owls' top finisher in the Pole Vault, placing 4th with a mark of 4.35m (14-03.25). Dylan Torok placed eighth with as season-best 

Cameron Belton won the Shot Put, throwing 17.26m (56-07.50). The two-time Northeast-10 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year has won each of the Shot Put in each of the three events he has competed in this season. Natanael Barbosa Torres placed third in the Shot Put, throwing 16.99m (55-09.00), and Christopher Bon Tempo placed 12th at 13.57m (44-06.25). Jordan Ribeiro and Leo Jolly rounded out the pack, placing 15th and 16th with throws of 12.67m (41-07.00) and 12.58m (41-03.25) respectively. 

In the Weight Throw, Leo Jolly landed in 10th with a toss of 13.87m (45-06.25), and Jordan Riberio threw a season-best 13.72m (45-00.25), good for 11th place.


The Owls compete again next weekend, traveling back to Boston for the Showdown at the Heights, hosted by Boston College on Friday, on February 7th and Saturday, February 8th.
