NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Abby Hurlbert (Thomaston, Conn.) of the women's basketball team and sophomore Leonardo LaPorte (Washingtonville, N.Y.) of the men's swimming and diving team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Hurlbert erupted for a career-high 38 points in Southern Connecticut's NE10 quarterfinal round win over Southern New Hampshire on Sunday. That total was the second-highest single-game total in program history, trailing only Cathy Inglese's 40-point effort against UMass in February, 1980. Hurlbert hit on 11-of-20 field goals, including 7-of-11 shots from behind the arc. She also added six rebounds, a block and a steal as the Owls improved to 21-8 overall and earned a spot in the NE10 Tournament semifinals on Thursday.

LaPorte had an outstanding weekend while representing the Owls at the ECAC Championships at Rutgers. He claimed the 2018 ECAC title in the 100 fly (48.14) in a field that included competitors from Virginia, Navy and Columbia. LaPorte also finished as the runner-up in the 200 fly (1:48.50) and was the only Division II swimmer in a final field that included competitors from the three aforementioned Division I schools, along with Penn and North Carolina State.

Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
