NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Michelle Grecni (Danbury, Conn.) of the women’s outdoor track and field team and junior Omar Gonzalez (Bristol, Conn.) of the men’s outdoor track and field team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Grecni registered a new SCSU outdoor record with a leap of 3.80 meters in winning the pole vault at the Wolfie Invitational over the weekend. She is currently ranked No. 10 in Division II in that event.

Gonzalez, also named the Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, claimed first place in the javelin with a throw of 60.51 meters at the UConn Classic. His throw was the best among any Northeast-10 student-athlete in that event this year and was a NCAA provisional mark.
