Anthony Aceto was a stand-out for the Southern Connecticut football and track & field teams during his four years as an undergraduate, serving as the program’s co-captain with Michael Adanti as a senior. After completing his playing career and graduating in 1963, Aceto was drafted by the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers. 
 
After an 11-year tenure as a physical education teacher from 1963 to 1974, he operated Aceto Construction until 1994. In 1995, Aceto joined the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department as the Coordinator of Athletic Facilities where he hosted multiple conference and national competitions. Also during his tenure, he directed multiple outside events including Relay for Life, Connecticut Special Olympics and the CIAC and SCC high school championships. Aceto was also heavily involved with the Owls Varsity Club.
 
During his tenure that spanned 20 years and culminated with his retirement in 2015, Aceto was elevated to Associate Athletic Director and served as the Co-Interim Director of Athletics in 2003. He was a recipient of the 1998 Southern Connecticut State University Alumni Service Award and has also been inducted in the New Haven Gridiron Club Hall of Fame.
